Khedge is a deep gnome who turned to a life of crime after growing up on the streets of Bazagon City. He started tinkering with junk in the hopes that he could better defend himself and survive.
In doing so, he learned that he had the ability to infuse the magic of the land, the very blood of the gods, into objects. He taught himself the craft of artifice, and he swore that he would use it to become powerful. Khedge would no longer be subject to the intimidation and tyranny of criminal gangs. He hoped to use his thieving skills in tandem with his artificing skills to gather an arsenal powerful enough to overpower anyone who would threaten him. The guantlets were a prime way for him to utilize his skills.
One year, he sought to take advantage of Bazagon's winter Joyguard festival (by @TheLoneCrusade) by testing his new steel defender creation as a mount and a sled-puller. He relished the results of his tests and the rewards he was granted by the Joyguard captain.
The leaders of the Joyguard held a bet based on a contest: The half-elf Lorelei would go on a date if Bromwick won, and Bromwick would brew a round of his dwarvish drinks if he won. Khedge sided with Lorelei in hopes of getting a round of free drinks, but he lost.
Some other runners joked that they would try to set Lorelei up with poor suiters as a joke, and Khedge in his pettiness sought to prevent them from having this fun by presenting a more reasonable suitor. He persuaded Coachmaster Dormiohn from the Dark Street Gauntlet in the Nameless District to try and gain Lorelei's favor, and this was a success. Khedge was rewarded with gold and a drink from Bromwick- who was glad Lorelei was taking steps toward a married life.
Khedge changed that day. The reward felt gracious and unearned. The couple's joy felt genuine and magical. Life did have more meaning that the power Khedge tried to craft for himself. The whole time Khedge's actions were selfish, but the Joyguard sought to bring the warm feeling he now felt to others. Khedge resolved to help others experience this joy and peace with his artifice.
He is known to ride his construct, Maximoph the Metal Worg. Token: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e09dqmHeeDHkDSojtaTrJeeGufh4LWI0/view?usp=sharing
