Party: Devlin, Maze, Myev, Petraios, Ronan
Location: Neverwinter
We had been requested to assist with an anomaly with the forest near Neverwinter. It was masked in an ominous shadow. We were led to the area, which happened to be a cemetery. From there, we found a kitten that had been trapped in an unclaimed grave. Ronan and Myev managed to get the kitten out from the grave and a disembodied voice told us to follow the cat. Named Obsidian.
It led us into a mausoleum, to which we were attacked by spectres. We took care of them, and I provided prayers for the souls, soothing them and allowing us to move on. There was an amulet that ended up getting purified, and found a way further down into the crypt. After some puzzle solving and traps triggering, we managed to enter the sarcophagus room. We found some things, but did not desecrate the resting space. We found that there was more to look into and continued on.
We found the Obsidian Tower that we were tasked to find, and found that there was an unholy ritual occurring. The necromancer conducting the ritual was raising the dead. We were quick to eliminate her undead minions, and just barely took her out before the ritual set off. With her meeting her end, the shadow upon the forest dissipated and we were able to see the moon. All is well, and balance has been restored. Praise the Lord of the Dead, for I have done a service to him.
Scrawled in a surprisingly neat hand, the following report is dated for 8/5/26
The group consisting of Myev, Ronan Darak, Delvin, Petraios, and Maze was sent by the Syndicate to investigate reports from Neverwinter of a dark fog that had overtaken the nearby forest. After transportation was provided, the group started our investigation and found the presence of a small black kitten with a collar reading "Obsidian" mewling in what appeared to be an abandoned grave within a forgotten cemetary.
The cat was extracted, upon which an etherial voice was heard by all of us that "Obsidian will lead the way." With little other leads, we followed the cat, who led us to first to a small mausoleum that was haunted by several spirits due to a cursed amulet. Once the spirits were dispatched, Ronan dispelled the magic on the amulet, and it was collected. *(See estimated item value report on the last page)
A staircase led to a lower level, in which a caged sarcophagus lay alone in its own room. The walls were inscribed with ancient runes that seemed to refer to something called the "Obsidian Order," or "Obsidian Tower," a name that doesn't seem prevalant in any modern Neverwinter History text to my knowledge. Upon investigating the coffin, several more spirits appeared to point us in a specific direction, though they disappeared and did not turn hostile afterwards. A greater potion of healing was collected from the crypt, several burial jewels left untouched. *
The cat then led us to a tower within the forest, the magical fog strong enough to blot out the ambient natural light. A ritual circle was south of the tower, occupied by a single necromancer and several undead. As far as we have been able to surmise after the fact, the ritual circle was made for the purpose of some necromantic act, possibly involving the raising of the dead within the forest as the start of some army. The wizard was dispatched before the ritual could be completed, with no casualties from the party to report. Once the wizard was killed, the shadows over the forest lifted, and the party returned to Neverwinter to report their success to the local guard.
