"Dorn is a 50-year-old artificer investigator, 6'9" tall with pale blue skin and white hair - the result of being half-human, half-goliath. He's autistic, speaking bluntly and avoiding social situations, but his genius-level deduction skills make him The Auric Vanguard's most valuable investigator.
For 25 years, Dorn worked in Dracoria alongside his best friend Dax, a knight commander who protected him from judgment. When Dax was sent to Dawnport and a mysterious fire and explosion occurred, Dorn left his workshop for the first time in decades to help his friend.
Dorn arrived at the outskirts of Dawnport and found Pak Lang fishing with Encik Jerami. Pak Lang called over the assembled adventurers—Morban, Bonk, Izaya, Carlsberg, and Dorn—and explained the local fish species and their point values for the day’s competition. The group paired up to fish, with each team trying to accumulate the highest total points from their catches.
Morban teamed with Pak Lang and scored the highest total of 21 points. Izaya and Bonk paired up for 19 points, while Dorn and Carlsberg together managed 12 points. Pak Lang awarded the winning team a wondrous magic item, an Ioun Stone (Reserve), as the prize for the competition.
The session concluded with the prize distribution and the group enjoying the day’s outing by the river.
The party advanced from the toilet area, peeking into the dining hall and spotting the armory opposite it. Dorn heard knocking from within the armory and, through his telepathic bond with his homunculus Dumpling, identified it as Dobot, his steel defender. The group rushed in, with Marx and Izaya focusing on a locked box while Dorn killed a lizardfolk guard with a makeshift spear. Two sentient animated armors activated as alarms, triggering a fight; Marx successfully opened the box, allowing Dobot to toss Dorn his musket and return Bonk's weapon.
As the party moved toward the exit, they were pursued by numerous wraiths and lizardfolk. Eden exited first and was hexed by the Keeper, a massive undead with a bell on its head, who then incapacitated him. Dobot deflected the Keeper's attack, and Dorn ordered Dumpling to assist, but both constructs were destroyed in a single swing. Dorn, Dew (his water elemental), and the remaining adventurers escaped, while Eden narrowly evaded undead blocking his path with an acrobatic backflip. Izaya, still inside, stealthily retrieved a book before fleeing the facility.
The group regrouped outside the cave, crossed a bridge with an abandoned house to the left, and made their way back to Dawnport. Dorn plans to file a formal report warning of the looming danger posed by the Keeper and the prison's forces.
Dorn awoke in a prison cell alongside Bonk, observing two lizardfolk guards and a skeletal undead taking notes on prisoners. Using prestidigitation to snuff out a nearby fire, Dorn drew attention and was stabbed with a spear, forcing him to feign injury while planning an escape. He bent the metal bars using a wet blanket tied between them, while other adventurers began fighting the lizardfolk guards. The party discovered Aldren Pike in a cell, brutally tortured with only his middle finger remaining, and stabilized him before moving him to safety.
Aldren revealed he was captured during the second jailbreak orchestrated by wizard Loseff Asteam, who escaped while others were recaptured. He relayed Loseff's warning: "The enemies are building an army. Dawnport needs to respond in kind. They have to prepare for the upcoming war." Following this intelligence, the group found an opening in the last cell leading to a toilet area, where they ambushed and killed a lone lizardfolk guard. A wraith patrolled the corridors, but the party remained hidden in the toilet.
From the toilet, the party identified two exits: one to a dining hall with a sleeping lizardfolk and a giant lizard wearing a chef's hat, and another to an empty kitchen. Using Dorn's minor illusion to create droplet sounds, the group lured the giant lizard into an ambush and defeated it. The session ended with the party controlling the toilet and kitchen area, preparing to push further into the facility.
Dorn learned from a sergeant that the Adventurer’s Guild had been receiving consistent reports of travelers disappearing on the road to and from Dawnport, with the pattern pointing to a cluster of merchant logging houses. He went to the guild with Dobot and Dew, registered for the mission through Birch, and waited as more adventurers signed up. Once the group assembled, Dorn briefed everyone and confirmed their names before heading out to the logging houses.
The party inspected the three houses in sequence. The first two contained mimics disguised as objects inside the buildings, which were defeated after being identified. The third house’s door would not open; the group realized the entire structure was a mimic, engaged it in combat, and watched as it eventually closed its “door” and fled the area. A final sweep of the site revealed one last hidden mimic, which was killed, after which the area was confirmed clear.
The group returned to Dawnport and reported the results to Birch, who recorded the findings and issued the mission reward. With the immediate threat of the logging-house mimics resolved, the quest was marked as complete.
Session Log – 17 August 2026
📍 Locations Visited:
Dawnport (quest pickup) → forest's-edge campsite → interior of the suspicious cave, specifically: the north entrance, a natural stone bridge spanning an underground river, the east underside of the bridge (boat storage), the south back chamber, and a raised perch overlooking the main cavern floor. (Session ended inside the cave after the encounter was resolved.)
👥 Party & Key NPCs:
📜 Summary of Events:
The party entered the cave from the north. The cavern featured a natural stone bridge at its centre with a river flowing beneath. On the east underside of the bridge, roughly three boats were moored; the first two held one and two dead bodies respectively. An undead ogre stood breathing on the bridge itself. Deeper in the south end, two figures (a tiefling and an undead mage) were arguing. Two cowled humans were burning books and hurling corpses into a pit.
Dorn coordinated the assault: Izaya dropped down to engage the minions under the bridge; Dobot (Dorn's Steel Defender) and Clothilde held the frontline against the undead ogre; Loseff and Lumiere provided magical support from the rear. The party eliminated all hostiles except the tiefling, who was shot through the hand and taken alive for questioning.
Post-combat investigation:
Dorn examined the bodies in the pit and identified them as checkpoint guards from Lieutenant Kosher's unit (Kosher was noted in prior reports as the first to fall) and several Dawnport villagers. Izaya searched four of the villager bodies, confirming they were commoners of little means; one carried a natural die. Total dead in the pit: 7 – four villagers, one guard, one cultist, one traveller.
Documents recovered (the books the cowled figures were destroying):
Consignment IX – Ghani Holdings
Status: Collection denied. Bodies already altered under locally issued necromantic permits. No seizure without Office authorisation. Courier R-3 observed by civilians (red eyes); removed from public routes.
Consignment XII – Near the Human Settlement (Dawnport)
Source: Coastal wreckage. Recovered 14; accepted 9; rejected 5 (saltwater damage). The "chained-bell recipient" requests drowned bodies be retained regardless of condition.
Consignment XV – Wardstone Quarry
Pages already torn out. No legible content.
Consignment XVII – Saint Orra's Trench
Recovered 12. Collection incomplete: chapel bell sounded during removal despite the rope being cut. Two collectors failed to return. Suspended until
"the Third Bell."
Consignment XVIII – North Road
Status: OVERDUE. Horse, sled, escort, and collected bodies unaccounted for. Road collection suspended; recovery party dispatched. Guild involvement suspected but unconfirmed.
"One loss may be error."
Consignment XIX – Lower River Station
Received 6; three for transfer, three held. Status: PURGE UPON WARNING. Final order beneath:
"If Nineteen is compromised, classify the Dawnport Adventurer's Guild as active interference. Prepare to burn all evidence. One loss may be error. The second counts."
Consignment VI — North-Western Checkpoint
Source: After passage of the Armored One
Condition: Mostly intact
Contents: Guards, travelers, and unidentified villagers
Status: Received and divided between three recipientsA note has been added beneath the entry:
Collection crews are reminded to wait until the Armored One has departed. Do not approach. Do not answer his questions.

Key connection: Dorn recalled that the number XVIII had been provided by Bram Hallow before the party entered the cave, linking the cart driver to the North Road consignment.
Loot: Dorn climbed a suspicious perch, found traces of blood, and discovered a treasure chest. Contents were divided equally: 200 gp per party member.

Session Log – 16 August 2026
📍 Locations Visited:
Dawnport (quest pickup) → the road to the forest's edge → a campsite near the mouth of the forest → the entrance of a suspicious cave. (Session ended at the cave threshold.)
👥 Key NPCs & Party Members:
📜 Summary of Events:
Dorn picked up a posted quest in Dawnport requesting aid with a suspicious cave. The group travelled by cart with Bram Hallow until they reached the forest's edge, where the camp was visible in the distance. They disembarked and approached on foot. Izaya Hei scouted ahead by climbing and spotted a bell alarm rigged at the camp. Dorn assessed the situation and proposed disarming the bell before engaging; the party agreed. The plan was split: Dorn and Izaya would silence the alarm, while Dorn's steel defender Dobot and Clothilde would draw attention at the front door as a distraction once the bell was neutralised. The alarm was successfully disarmed, the distraction was triggered, and the party fought their way through the camp into the cave entrance. The session ended as the group stepped into the cave, leaving its contents unexplored.
