Adventures
Adventures are your classic D&D sessions. They are scheduled via westmarches.games, and generally played on roll20 and over voice chat.
All adventure times from westmarches.games are automatically converted to the viewer's time zone
Scheduling Adventures
For a better chance of a DM picking up your adventure, try to schedule at least a few days in advance!
Rules:
- Standard adventures are always minimum 3 players and a maximum 5 players
- Select up to 3 in-character adventurer ranks for 'discord roles to ping'; your own, plus 1 rank above and/or below yours. Fill in the level ranges to follow the ranks that you are pinging
- While you can ping up to 3 ranks, the party you choose should be within 1 rank of each other. For example, if your character is level 10 (Journeyman rank), you can post for level ranges 7-12 (Adept, Journeyman, and Expert ranks). However, when you select your party, it should be EITHER levels 7-10 (Adept/Journeyman) OR levels 9-12 (Journeyman/Expert)
- As a player, you do not need to worry about filling out "Region", "Wiki Links", "Adventure Type", or "Location"
- Do not enable "Automatically approve signups" for standard adventures. This gives those who may have different schedules/time zones a chance to sign up before the game fills up.
Note: DMs may choose to extend the level ranges to 3 ranks if they wish. This can make balancing more difficult, so this adjustment should only occur on the DM side.
Step by Step Guide:
- Select the "Adventures" tab from the top of the page (or the left side bar on mobile)
- Select "Schedule New Adventure" by clicking the torch icon with the "+" sign
- Select "Player" at the top of the page, and which character you are looking to play for this adventure
- Title your adventure with the planned date (this ensures the date appears in the thread title when posted in #adventure-listings)
- Fill out the description for a general idea of what kind of game you are looking to play. Then fill out the date, time, and roughly how long you'd like to play.
- Fill out all other fields as outlined above in "Rules"
- Click "Create Adventure". The Adventure is then automatically sent to the #adventure-listings channel with a thread created.
- Wait a few hours before selecting your party members. To select party members, go to the westmarches.games page for the adventure (this can be accessed through the discord post, or by the adventures tab on the website), and scroll down to see the list of applicants. Click the 3 circles to the right of the character, and click 'approve'. If more than 5 eligible players sign up, we recommend selecting players based on fewest recent games, involvement in the plot, or other objective means.
- If a DM is available and interested in running, they will claim the adventure on the westmarches.games page, then ping all the players in the discord thread. If a DM forgets to ping all the players, feel free to give them a ping to add them to the thread.
- If a DM does not pick up the adventure, please head to the adventure page on westmarches.games, click the button labeled "··· More" and click "ⓧ Cancel". This removes the adventure from our statistics and keeps our activity accurate.
Joining Scheduled Adventures
You can join posted adventures in one of two ways:
Your rank will be pinged via discord in the #adventure-listings channel when an adventure is posted. From the post, click "View details and sign up" to be taken to the westmarches.games page for the adventure
From the westmarches.games community page, select the "adventures" tab at the top (or left side bar on mobile.) Here, you can see a list of all adventures, as well as any with open spots. You can also filter adventures based on time and day of the week. Click the adventure you're interested in joining.
Click the "sign up" button.
You will get a ping automatically from westmarches.games 30 minutes before the start of any adventure; even if a DM has not picked it up.
Playing in the Adventure
Currently, adventures are held on roll20 and over discord voice chat. If a DM picks up an adventure you're in, you will get a ping from the DM in the thread in the #adventure-listings channel letting you know.
Before the adventure begins, find the DM's page on the westmarches.games community home page; or in the adventure's post in #adventure-listings. The DM's roll20 game link should be there. If the link does not work, please let the DM know!
Be sure to check the magic item limitations in Leveling Up, Ranks, & Perks when preparing to go on your adventure!
Moving your PC sheet:
After joining their Roll20 game, you will need to move your sheet from the My Characters Tab into their game by clicking the 3 dots next to your character.
Note: When you move your sheet into a DMs Roll20 game, the DM will have full access to make any changes or delete your sheet. We recommend periodically making a copy of your sheet in your characters tab as a backup should any technical difficulties occur.
After the adventure, please remove your sheet from the DM's game by clicking the 3 dots next to your character in your characters tab, and selecting "remove from game."
Post Adventure
After the party has completed the adventure, the DM distributes rewards directly to each PC via the westmarches.games adventure page.
Any rewards that are not automatically tracked, such as magic items, must be logged in #inventory-logs.
Post Adventure Notes
After completing an adventure, you can do an in-character write up of the adventure by clicking "add notes" on the bottom of the adventure page on westmarches.games. Any note should answer all of the following questions:
Upon completing your notes, you may reward yourself with 1 additional XP by going to your character's page on westmarches.games, selecting "give rewards", enter in 1 experience point, and put the adventure name and date in the "notes" section of the pop up. Note: You can also grant yourself 1 XP by going to the misc marketplace on wmg and purchasing it.
State of The Syndicate Notes
- Once a month, the @adventurer role is pinged for an adventure, named "The State of The Syndicate - (current month)." This is not an adventure that will be run, but rather only referenced for its 'adventure notes.' Still be sure to sign up for it so you can write notes!
- On this adventure page on westmarches.games, you can write up an adventure note, documenting all recent happenings about the syndicate. These notes should be in character! So if you are writing one for each of your characters, they should not just be copied and pasted for each one! Feel free to edit at your leisure!
- While you can sign up for the adventure with multiple characters, each player only has one place to write notes, so be sure to notate which section of your notes is for which PC.
- once you have completed your notes, grab the "State of the Syndicate" notes off the marketplace. This grants 1XP and 1 Sydnicate Token.
The goal of this is to help people catch up with what's been happening both IC and OoC, if they are newly joining the syndicate, or if they step away at any point!
