Previous section: Character Creation
While text RP is not required to play in adventures, it is strongly encouraged. This is where guild members forge strong connections, make plans of attack, and unwind after long days of adventuring. DM Events and Random Encounters also occur within text RP. Please note that all RP done within the RP channels is considered canon.
Check out the in-character calendar, weather, and time at the top of our discord channels! This helps to keep our world cohesive and immersive
First, make a tupper for your PC in the #bot-commands channel, or on the tupperbox website
Then head to the #check-in-desk channel, in the Syndicate channel category on discord. Ping for @receptionist and someone will help you get settled!
We try to have the passage of time in text RP stick to real world time as much as possible.
If there is a scene you would like to continue, but cannot due to unavailability out of character, you can start a thread. Threads are considered "time stopped." Your character can RP out of the thread before it is concluded, unless a DM is running a Locked DM event.
This also means that you cannot be RPing in text while your PC is on an adventure.
We use tupperbox for RPing, and avrae for rolling. See the #bot-commands channel for more info on how to use these.
You must use tupperbox when RPing
Use quotes
" "when your character is speaking
Use italics* *to narrate actions
Any OoC text should be in parentheses( )
There are always NPCs working at the Syndicate to keep it running.
If your PC is inactive in a channel long enough that is not clear OoC your character is present, it is assumed they stepped away for one reason or another. They can return at any time once you are back. For extended periods in which you are away, it is assumed your PC returned to their place of rest. This is to prevent the metagaming of "my PC was there the whole time"
Please do not use discord's "reply" feature. It does not work well with tupperbox
Please try to keep all text in the RP channels as RP. There are the #rp-commentary channels for out of character cross talk.
DM Events are plot-driven situations that occur within threads in text RP channels. Events that occur within and around The Syndicate are considered "open", meaning any PC can jump in to get involved if they wish. Examples of such events include:
If a DM is planning an event that directly involves your PC, that DM will reach out to you to discuss it before anything is initiated.
No immediate danger: No planned combats
Low danger: Threats that could be easily handled by Initiate to Adept ranked Syndicate members
Medium danger: that could be handled by Journeyman to Master ranked Syndicate members
High Danger: Possible combatants that could be handled by Senior+ ranked Syndicate members
Extreme Danger: Very real risk of death or other detriments to any Syndicate member that participates.
Random encounters are small pop-ups that happen within the text RP channels on discord. The goal of random encounters is to make the world feel alive! They are rolled via a custom command directly in the discord channel.
Any one can roll a random encounter at any time to generate RP, but before rolling any random encounter, be sure to check in with all participants OoC to make sure they are up for joining a random encounter!
Keep in mind, not every random encounter means a monster pops out and immediately starts attacking the party! Random encounters only roll what the party can come across, it is up to the person running it to determine how it found in the world.
All participants are RPing any DTP activity that they are expending. The activity must be purchased on the marketplace by all potential participants before the random encounter is rolled. This means the characters must have a reason for being out in the world, as opposed to the meta of "searching for a random encounter."
It is being run by a DM (DMs- see the server DM Handbook for guidelines)
Even if the above guidelines are met, not every monster will drop treasure, per their stat block or dice rolls.
If a monster from a random encounter drops treasure, the DM running the encounter will roll it, or dictate to the party what to roll. Treasure from random encounters is also randomized based off the treasure listed on the monster stat block.
This treasure is meant to be immersive and representative of what would be stumbled upon out in the world, as opposed to a reward to the PC(s) for completing the random encounter. This means there may not be enough treasure for each participant to get an item or there may not be enough to be equally divided amongst all participants. The participants decide how treasure is divided amongst themselves.
After a DM runs a random encounter, they will create an adventure for it, and add you as a participant. From there, the DM will distribute rewards as discussed between all participants.
To roll a random encounter, check out the "Random Roller Guide" found in #server-info
In the future, we hope to utilize random encounters for new DTP activities, such as harvesting monster parts.
