Aven grew up quite well off, born into a wealthy family. When other children were outside playing, Aven was inside reading, cultivating a love of plants. Many of their expeditions outside were to collect plant samples and confirm what was written in their books.

In their teenage years, their mother fought for Aven to get a private tutor. This led to Aven learning magic and gaining a further understanding of botany and herbalism. As the years wore on, Aven’s father grew more and more upset by Aven’s disinterest in leaving home wanting them to start their own life. This eventually culminated in Aven being exiled to the edge of civilization to, in his father’s words, “become a man.”

Their father, a wealthy businessman, was upset that Aven was, in his words, “a good-for-nothing layabout.” Aven’s father was the one who forced them to head off to the Last Lantern as a form of soft exile, saying, “Let’s see if those books do you any good there.”

Their goal is to catalog the new plants in this far-off land and learn about the ecology as they travel.
