Hurgin is a descendant from one of the old dwarven clans which laid the foundations for the Melysis Hold. Whatever importance his ancestors once held has long since faded, generations of his family have instead remained with the Hold, tending its fields, tunnels, sewers and burial grounds. He followed naturally in their footsteps, becoming a druid whose understanding of nature is practical rather than romantic. To him, the cultivated depths beneath Kóris are as much a part of nature as any forest - crops must grow, vermin must be kept in check, the dead must return to the earth, and every part of that cycle has its purpose.
His quiet life earned him some local renown after he stepped up during a crisis within the Hold, saving others where most would have reasonably turned back. Still, Hurgin never sought to become anything more than another pair of dependable hands keeping Kóris fed and its foundations standing.
Now, however, those foundations are beginning to strain. As unnatural growth and disease spreads through the depths, he has seen firsthand that something is wrong with the natural cycle he has spent his life maintaining. With the Melysis Hold increasingly pressured from without and reluctant to abandon the stability that has sustained it for generations, Hurgin feels obligated to venture deeper himself and find what is poisoning the roots of the city before there is nothing left to preserve.
