TGFS DM Handbook
The following applies to all DMs
As a DM, you are considered a leader within this community, and held to a standard that is conductive to healthy gameplay.
Irreversible death, forced character removal (permanent imprisonment, unplayable curses, etc), and massive mechanical debuffs MUST be discussed and consented to by the character's player before they occur.
As a server, we neither support nor condemn this style of play. Our goal is to have collaborative, meaningful, and balanced narratives between DMs and PCs; not for players to feel punished or surprised by irreversible outcomes.
Using these risks as a narrative tool, rather than a permanent removal, should still be discussed; and the DM should have a plan in place for the character(s) to be able to fix the challenge (jail break, special resurrection ritual, etc).
Debuffs, temporary character loss, and other impactful ongoing consequences still require approval from head DMs, like any other long term mechanic effect. Narratively, The Syndicate (and OoC server staff) will never call for the removal of a PC over IC actions
Tip: if you're looking to hit a character with a personal and impactful curse, consider asking the player specifically what type of effect they feel would be appropriate for their character. Sometimes they come up with something far harsher than you would!
These are DMs that are new to DMing on the server, or new to DMing over all. These DMs may only run official adventurer league modules until they reach Full DM status. These DMs cannot create custom content, become lorekeepers, or grant renown.
In order to reach Full DM status, New DMs must run at least one game that includes a staff member or Head DM for evaluation.
Your standard DM on the server. They can create their own custom content, become lorekeepers, and grant renown. Their narratives do not require approval.
These DMs have shown extensive knowledge of the game and the lore of the server. They have total creative and mechanical freedom over what they run. They can approve narratives for new DMs.
Professional nerds. They ensure mechanical balance within the server, consistency of lore, and work with staff to handle DM related codes of conduct. They approve anything listed above, as well as DM promotions. In exchange for carrying out this task, they recieve rewards that are to be determined.
Keeps the lore on any Lore Aspects. This is an add-on role for Full DMs, Veteran DMs, or Head DMs. They decide the priviledges that are unlocked with that faction's renown tiers, and give the final sign off on DMs granting renown. See the section on Lorekeepers in this document for more information on how to become a Lorekeeper. In exchange for carrying out this task, they recieve double Treasure Points for any adventure they run.
Just because you do not need approval for something, doesnt mean you cant reach out to other DMs for assistance or discussions!
