While traveling along the river outside Loudwater, Venn and Kamathariel noticed an unusual mist beginning to gather over the water and spread inland through the woods. When Venn used his hag eye to look into the Ethereal Plane, he discovered the mist was far thicker there, seeming to bleed gradually into the Material Plane.

As the fog deepened, the woods grew quiet and the pair encountered a frightened man struggling against an uncontrolled transformation into a werebear. Though he repeatedly tried to warn them away and fight whatever was overtaking him, he eventually lost control and attacked. Venn was bitten and afflicted with the werebear’s curse before the creature was finally killed while attempting to flee.

The man returned to human form after death, leaving behind a Potion of Greater Healing.

More troubling than the attack itself, however, was the mist. Whatever happened to the man began as the Ethereal fog pushed into the area, making this the first known sign that something unusual is spreading across the region.
