Patron: Raurus Thane, Astronomer
Location: Secomber / The Forlorn Hills
Type: Follow-Up Expedition / Exploration / Site Security
Urgency: Moderate
A carefully folded letter arrives for the Syndicate, sealed with dark blue wax impressed by a simple eight-pointed star. The writing within is precise, though several passages appear to have been amended in excited haste.
To the capable members of the Glassfang Syndicate,
I hope this letter finds you all in good health and, ideally, without any lingering wounds from our last excursion. I remain tremendously grateful for your aid in locating the structure we discovered in the Forlorn Hills, which I have taken to calling the Star Dial until some older and more accurate name can be determined.
I have now completed an initial study of the scrolls recovered beneath its center. The woodcut remains perplexing, but the accompanying star chart has proven considerably more cooperative, ha. It does not merely depict the heavens. It indicates a bearing.
I believe the Star Dial points toward a second site somewhere deeper within the Forlorn Hills.
I would be profoundly grateful for Syndicate assistance in following this new bearing, locating whatever lies at its end, and ensuring the area is safe enough for a preliminary examination. Given the dangers encountered during our last expedition, I have made somewhat improved preparations this time.
I will be awaiting interested parties in Secomber with my charts, translations, and appropriate compensation.
With considerable anticipation,
Raurus Thane
Astronomer and, apparently, recurrent troublemaker
