Dyine is a wizard from the frequently antagonistic [city-state? idk] of [idk what to name it]. Unfortunately born the middle child of a noble family, he has found himself a disappointment regardless of successes. His father frequently asserts that he is only hard on him because he sees so much wasted potential. With his older brother being highly regarded and his younger brother being a genius, It is no wonder he wouldn't seem like much in comparison.
His passion lies in the research of the Far Marches and associated phenomena. He inherited it from his mother who used to be a reclaimer before she settled down with his father. It was an emotionally one sided and politically motivated marriage. During Dyine's childhood she would regale him with mysteries of the frontier. She would eventually return to it in brief bursts when he turned seven. Unfortunately on her seventh adventure, she came back weaker. This weakness evolving into a seemingly never-ending slumber.
Regardless of how desperately his father searched for a solution it was for naught. And still regardless of all the resources their family invested to keep her alive in her sleeping state, their world works fast. The government eventually legally considered her dead and due to societal pressure his father eventually remarried. As is the usual case, one would say his stepmother loved him like a son until she had one of her own. Taking care of him for as long as she did was no small feat as Dyine, in a futile attempt to wake his mother up, was very accident prone.
Now, as a grown adult, all the chaos he experienced as a child has made him fear loss and change more than anything. Unfortunately, the clock will always tick and the tomorrow is always nigh.
