The planet Vesparr is defined by its highly ionized atmosphere, accompanied by a high abundance of metallic particles in the air and strong electromagnetic poles. This environment has led to the planet's inhabitants falling into one of two categories, silicon or plasma based life forms. Of these, the plasma based life forms developed into their own civilization, one made up of 20 different hivemind entities constantly in a cycle of dissipating and reforming over time.

Joules was originally a part of the Fulminex collective before suddenly being isolated from their hivemind during one of their usual reformation processes. As a result they immediately became a social outcast in their society, no longer able to function as a part of their collective as they once had. Opting to flee from their homeworld rather than remain in isolation, Joules constructed a single person spacecraft and left their home with no destination in mind.

Its aimless journey would be cut short after their transport vehicle sustained damage and was sent on a crash course to Earth, landing Joules right in the center of Halcyon City's industrial district, more specifically one of the many power plants. Their nature as an intangible electrical being causing much of the technological infrastructure in the area to become destabilized, they were eventually captured by Mercury of The Mineraloids and brought to AEGIS for containment.

After a few months of research testing being conducted on her to determine her threat level, AEGIS developed a mobile containment unit to allow Joules to experience Earth life by attending Eclipse Academy, as they had been deemed a non-threat... as long as they stayed contained.
