Born and raised in San Diego by her parents Cynthia and Dario Lafayette, Luka grew up living a relatively normal life until manifesting brand new powers at the age of 11. Before that she was just your usual hyperactive sporty kid with an easygoing flamboyant father and strict yet genuinely supportive mother. Growing up Luka always had been an extremely social kid, yet there was nobody she was closer with than her best friend Lily Robertson. The two of them did practically everything together, classes, sports, you name it and they were always side by side. Which unsurprisingly meant that Lily was there for when Luka first discovered her newfound powers, as the two had been practicing lacrosse together when Luka suddenly moved at speeds faster than the eye could see.

With Luka's brand new abilities the two decided to become super cool costumed vigilantes and help out their community however they could (mostly searching for lost pets and helping walk people home). This however led to Luka's parents discovering her powers, which left them with many concerns for their daughter's wellbeing. Yet they permitted the two to continue their vigilante work (albeit with strict supervision), as they knew better than anyone there was no stopping those two once their minds were set.

As time past Luka and Lily, now using the vigilante names Kinetix and Amphibix, gradually expanded their efforts from just helping out their community to engaging in full on crime fighting. By age 14 this would eventually lead the duo to investigating local reports of a villain group handling stolen hero tech, which very quickly turned into a mess much larger than they could handle. Due to Lily's lack of superpowers, Luka attempted to push her own past their limits, resulting in an explosion of energy that destabilized the villain's base. In her moment of being incapacitated by the backlash of her powers, Luka watched as Lily was seemingly buried beneath falling debris.

In the aftermath of losing her best friend and being confronted with the intense physical strain put on her by her powers, Luka threw herself fully into her vigilante work. All of her free time and energy was dedicated towards stopping crime whenever and wherever she could regardless of the cost to her own wellbeing, much to the concern of her parents. This obsession with crime fighting was only made worse by the appearance of an eerily familiar vigilante by the name of Anura that seemed fully intent on taking Luka down, and knew all the exact ways to do so.

In an attempt to give Luka a fresh start, and try to ditch her newfound nemesis, Cynthia and Dario decide to move to Halcyon City and enroll their daughter in one of the cities notable hero schools. They knew perfectly well that Luka could get into Phoenix Academy, but figured it would be best to not call more attention to her presence in the city than necessary given her annoyingly persistent nemesis.
