Halcyon City is a large coastal city ambiguously located somewhere on the east coast of the United States. It is known as the largest super-city in the world. Many people with good or bad intentions have moved here over the past few generations to become the greatest hero or villain of them all.

A little bit of history...

Halcyon City is commonly cited as the place where the concept of superheroism started. People with powers or special abilities have pretty much always existed, but the first one to really take the step forward and create a new identity based on her powers was Flying Freedom. She was a woman with light brown skin and curly, shoulder-length black hair. She had the ability to fly, and typically dressed in an aviator-inspired costume when she was doing her work as what she called a "superhero". Her civilian identity was never truly revealed or publicly confirmed, even after her death.

In her lifetime Flying Freedom inspired people of almost all ages, all over the world, to also use their powers to fight back against whatever forces of evil they were able to go up against. This also started an uprising in supervillainy, with people being inspired to use their powers for things that weren't exactly morally good.

Today...

A little over 100 years have passed since Flying Freedom's original debut, and the act of superheroism and supervillainy has become mainstream in Halcyon City. These acts have also become much bigger, flashier and more flamboyant over these generations, and in many cases also much more dangerous.

There are days in which half of the city is destroyed, but the people who live here are used to it. After all, it'll be back in perfect shape again by tomorrow thanks to the "clean-up crew".

Schools

There are several schools in Halcyon City that teach its students the art of being a superhero. There are rumors of supervillain schools as well, but none of those have been officially acknowledged as a school just yet. For now, there are two noteworthy superhero schools in Halcyon City:

• The "best" school for learning superheroics in the city is Phoenix Academy, but it's only really accessible to either those with the right connections, or the rich. Everyone who graduates from this academy is guaranteed to become a big-name superhero.
• The "second-best" superhero school in the city is Eclipse Academy. It aims to be accessible to almost anyone, regardless of social or financial status. Oftentimes, those who get kicked out of Phoenix Academy and still want to be a hero will attend Eclipse Academy as a "back-up plan", which has given the school a bit of an awkward reputation.
