Born and raised in Halcyon City, Espurna is a 17-year-old with no superpowers of her own, instead using various magical artifacts and gadgets for her own benefit. Growing up much of Espurna's time was spent in the Halcyon History Museum, so much so that her aptitude for analyzing the patterns in the magical artifact exhibits was noticed by the staff at the HHM. This investment from the staff at the HHM eventually led to them helping get Espurna enrolled in the research track at Phoenix Academy, specializing in the processing and practical application of magical relics. This was until Espurna and her research team were handling and testing a new batch of artifacts when they discovered that one of the relics was much more volatile than expected, resulting in the research lab (Espurna and her team included) being consumed by a fiery explosion. In the aftermath of this incident Espurna was left alone in the destroyed lab, scarred and with that same relic responsible for the destruction now embedded into the palm of her hand. With no witnesses or evidence to support her story, Espurna was deemed at fault for the incident and removed from Phoenix Academy as a result. However with the assistance of the HHM once again, Espurna was able to somewhat save her career by pivoting into attending Eclipse Academy's hero training course.

Unsurprisingly Espurna is... not thrilled about her situation. She never planned to work as a superhero, as her entire education up until her transfer to Eclipse Academy was solely focused on the research side of things. This can lead to Espurna coming across as a little disinterested or apathetic towards being a hero, however she's not one to complain about getting some field testing with her magical devices and will often get very excited to engage with anyone in that space.
