Airi's mother, Chou (蝶), died when she was still young - although old enough to remember her. Her father, Hideo (秀夫), remarried with Kuni Mia (美秋) some time after, giving Airi not only a new mother, but also a sister in Kuni Mitsu. Hideo was the house-spouse in this marriage.
While Airi has some sensitivity for the supernatural, it never developed into the skills of a shugenja (Sixth Sense). With her constitution being rather poor (Incurable Illness), the more physical schools weren't a good fit either, leading to her joining the Kaiu Architects instead. She flourished there, finding ways to express herself in her own creativity. Rather than buildings and interior spaces, however, she truly enjoys fashion and designing outfits (Fashion). She also doesn't quite agree with the utalitarian views on such things most of the clan has, feeling like form and function should be able to be in harmony. Or at least that form does not have to be disregarded for function. Despite (or maybe because of) that, she holds her work to a very exacting standard, rejecting drafts over a tiny flaw she found. (Perfectionism) She can trace her lineage to the earliest days of the Kaiu Wall, and named herself after said ancestry (Blood and Mortar heritage -> Blessed Lineage). Other parts of her ancestry, however, are not spoken about, especially not how there may or may not be someone calling out to her from the other side... (Fallen Ancestor)
To this day, Airi has a rather slight build, a result of her weak constitution. She enjoys dressing for aesthetics, even though her wardrobe is somewhat limited - mainly because she struggles to actually declare a design finished. She often dresses in the traditional blues of the clan, with a number of hand-made embellishments. Chief among her accessories is a singular, long, tassled earring, which she wears in her left ear.
She tends to wear her hair half up, the upper portion secured with coordinating kanzashi, while the lower adds a degree of flow and elegance.
Airi does not generally wear the face-paint of the Kuni, although she may do so when the situation calls for it. On the occasion that she wears make-up, it is light, allowing for a more natural look.
