TGFS DM Handbook
Previous Section: Other Custom Content
If our DMs are the lifeblood of the server, then the Lorekeepers are the backbone, providing structure and sense to all the intraconnecting parts of the world. Lorekeepers ensure the consistency of narrative and lore in the server; and ensure we maintain immersive to the Forgotten Realms setting.
Each Lorekeeper is responsible for maintaining 1 or more Lore Aspects that any DM or Player can get involved in.
Lorekeepers also sign off on granting renown for their Lore Aspect(s), and decide what rewards are unlocked at each tier of renown for their Lore Aspect(s)
Lore Aspects is the terminology for any slice of interactive lore. Aspects may have multiple Lorekeepers, and Lorekeepers may be keepers of multiple Lore Aspects. Anything that has its own renown to grant is considered a Lore Aspect.
See the Lore Aspect wiki articles for any Aspects with Lorekeepers
Lore aspects are also separated into Canon and Custom Lore Aspects
Canon Lore Aspects are anything that is from any published D&D source. While lorekeepers are free to tweek and change things as player interactions happen, we ask they be kept as close as possible as their published canon. The idea of this is for new players to be able to jump in to the server, and have an idea of the Lore as they know if from other sources.
For the sake of soft opening, we are not allowing custom lore aspects, but are still including this information for feedback.
If a DM wishes for any for their custom content to grant its own renown, they may. However, there are a few rules with Custom Lore Aspects to keep in mind
Your primary article should include the following, and be set for "visitor" and "adventurer" visibility.
Be sure to create this article in the "Lore Aspects" folder. If you would like to make additional articles about your Lore Aspect, please create its own subfolder in the "Lore Aspects" folder.
The primary thing to check is if it would make narrative sense for the characters or The Syndicate to gain renown.
Their are 6 Tiers of Renown for any Lore Aspect. In addition to narrative rewards, each tier should unlock specific rewards, which can be put on westmarches.games or discord. PCs with the appropriate Renown Tier should be able to benefit from these rewards without a DM present. Examples of these would be special bastion facilities, downtime activity options, discounted shops, etc.
We are all here to tell this story together.
When you become a Lorekeeper, you are the one people turn to when they have questions about that Aspect.
TBD - what is on these cards
If there are repeat or problematic intances where these responsibilities are not met, the Lorekeeper role may be revoked
After becoming a full DM, you can apply to become a Lorekeeper by filling out the application in #server-info
For the sake of the soft opening, there is only 1 custom Lore Aspect: The Syndicate. Therefore, any DM can choose to be a Lorekeeper of that Aspect. Additionally we will be running 2 canon Lore Aspects to see how they interact.
