Vorthregmor: The Sentinel of Havensreach
Long ago, in the shadow of the Grumgold dwarves’ great halls, the vivilith Vorthregmor was forged to safeguard the peaks and valleys of Havensreach. His core stone, a flawless cluster of sapphire veined with silver, carried the fragmented wisdom of three master stonewrights. One was a tactician, another an artisan, and the third a dreamer, whose visions of enduring peace gave Vorthregmor an unusual sense of purpose among his kind.
Vorthregmor's crude form—a towering, jagged figure of dark granite and basalt—was forged in the haste of necessity. He was deployed to the mountainous perimeter of Havensreach, where the toxic mists of Magneland threatened to seep through crumbling passes. In those early days, Vorthregmor tirelessly patrolled the rocky barricades, repairing breaches in the mountains and smashing the mutated creatures that stumbled through the noxious fog.
Over the centuries, Vorthregmor's body evolved as he scavenged stronger materials and incorporated them into his frame. Shards of enchanted obsidian and rare Grumgold alloys now reinforce his limbs, making him nearly impervious to the corrosive effects of the mist. His crude design gradually gave way to a more refined, yet fearsome, visage—a living monument to the resilience of his creators.
With the fall of the Grumgold dwarves, Vorthregmor continued his vigil alone. He has watched empires rise and crumble in the lands beyond the toxic veil, remaining steadfast in his duty. Despite his isolation, fragments of the dreamer’s essence in his core imbue him with an aching hope to protect not just Havensreach but the memory of the Grumgolds.
In the present day, Vorthregmor is a legend among the people of Havensreach, often mistaken for a mountain or statue until he stirs. Travelers whisper tales of a massive construct striding through the mist, repairing breaches in the natural barriers and driving back horrors that threaten the sanctuary of their land. Yet, Vorthregmor harbors an unspoken fear: without the wisdom of the Grumgolds, the core stone that animates him may someday fail, leaving the mountains vulnerable to the encroaching mists—and the horrors they conceal.
