Of simple roots in Faraviata, the Magnelander formerly called Pellio Polybius heard the call to greatness while hunting. He and a bear locked eyes across a clearing where there stood two deer. The bear bowed to Pellio and left. After taking the deer home to his small village, The man immediately trekked north into the mountains, wondering what this omen could mean. There he found Clan Veragemoth and wandered into a chapel, where he was greeted with surprising kindness by a dragonborn elder of Mitra-Satsil. It was here that the man discovered he had a latent knowledge of the dragon-tongue.

He lingered at the shrine for the better part of a year before migrating onward, convinced that he had been born into higher purposes, but recognizing that his gifts did not come from Mitra-Satsil. The man, together with his silver dragonborn companion Rhogar, sees signs everywhere, spurring them to greater deeds which continue to manifest gifts.

After meeting a Brain Coral and colelctor of names beneath the Scarlet Sea, he stated that he knew Pellio Polybius was not his final form, giving up the name to the enigmatic coral. Upon hear that a nameless captain named Lare once posessed the Compass of Broken Stars, the man adopted the name "Lare."
