My creator named me Kinzoku, but the crowds knew me as “the Metal Dragon”.
My father, Matheson, was forced to flee his clan and hide in the underbelly of the Ruby City. He had hoped to save the lives of his countrymen in the Oroku army by building a mechanical soldier to fight in the centuries long war against the Hamato Clan. But his efforts were viewed as cowardly, that he was trying to strip the Oroku soldiers of their livelihood. The only soldier he completed, my brother Komada, fought to protect our father as he fled. We do not know if he still lives.
Exile in the Ruby City was difficult for my father. Loneliness and hunger were his constant companions, until he built me. By some measure of luck, we learned how the underside of the City liked to entertain itself; contests of violence between creatures brought from all corners of the coast. We had little to lose besides some of my metal plating, so I was entered into the fights and my father began training me with all he knew of combat.
I did well initially, but we quickly found the cost of keeping me fully repaired left my father without a full belly. I had to make due when I could with worn or broken parts. It became worse as the years dragged on.
We finally got a break, a high payout for a 5 round match against a mystery opponent. This was the chance to turn our fortune around. But minutes before the fight, our luck ran out as did my Wizlight core. I only discovered what happened hours later when it was too late to change our fate.
Desperate, my father did the only thing he could think of. He donned my plating as a disguise and took my place in the ring. For 3 minutes, the crowd watched as “The Metal Dragon” was tossed around the ring like a ragdoll by a manticore before being dragged away so a “real” fight could take place.
For the losing effort, we were only paid half the agreed participation price. My father immediately sent it all to replace my core. My first sight on reawakening was my father, bruised and bleeding, falling to the floor. His final words to me were that I should have more than just survival. He asked me to find what became of my missing brother, and make this world better for those who live in it in any way I could.
I’ve heard of a group from across the seas who have come to rebuild following the disastrous Creation War. And I know where I should start…
