To the young and promising courtiers of Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru,
With the revels of the Frog Festival now passed, and the city at last settling into the gentler rhythm of spring, Shichiro Konomi is pleased to open her doors to the season’s next gathering: an evening salon for the rising voices, watchful eyes, and bright ambitions of the City of the Rich Frog.
If the festival marked the season’s joyful beginning, let this be its first graceful measure.
In a city where every season brings new tensions, new opportunities, and new faces to favor, it is only fitting that its younger courtiers should have a place to be seen, to speak, and to begin taking one another’s true measure. Beneath the warmth of Unicorn hospitality, guests are invited to an evening of conversation, poetry, music, and good company, where introductions may deepen into understanding, and acquaintance may ripen into alliance.
Those who wish to appear as suitors will be welcome, whether they seek a future shaped by affection, by duty, or by the gentle agreement of families and circumstance. Yet this gathering is not solely for courtship. It is a salon in the fullest sense: a place for wit, observation, rivalry, promise, and the careful flowering of reputation.
The Unicorn are travelers, and have seen too much of the world to bind every worthy bond to a single shape. Let all guests be at ease. Whether one comes to cultivate friendship, family ambition, romance, political accord, or simple familiarity with the season’s company, the Unicorn will not judge.
Come prepared to speak well.
Come prepared to listen better.
Come prepared, perhaps, to find that spring has already begun to shape the year ahead.
Hosted by Shichiro Konomi
In the early spring season, following the Frog Festival
This event is a young courtiers’ spring salon, following the Frog Festival that opened spring in the city. Where the festival was public, lively, and celebratory, this salon is more intimate, refined, and socially strategic: the first real chance for the city’s younger political and courtly set to gather in a more deliberate setting.
The purpose of the salon is to provide a space for conversation, introductions, subtle maneuvering, and the cultivation of reputation. Guests may pursue alliances, test rivalries, trade observations, and begin establishing the social patterns that may define the season to come. Suitors are welcome, whether motivated by love, duty, family interest, or practicality, but courtship is only one thread among many rather than the sole focus of the evening.
The tone should be warm, elegant, and lightly competitive: a spring gathering shaped by possibility rather than pressure. It is a place where young samurai may be watched by their elders, quietly assessed by their peers, and given room to show wit, refinement, charm, discernment, and social instinct. In short, it is less a marriage market and more the season’s first true proving ground in silk and smiles. A knife fight, but with fans and words.
This will be run over 3 days, 2 rounds a day. The rounds will be split up over a 6 hour period to give everyone a chance to response in a timeless manner.
