Theophania á Vati is the 6th child of Gaius Í Vati. She grew up in his sprawling estates, lavish castles and luxurious villas which span the breadth of Kafron, a colony of the Caelian Empire. She ate the finest food and drank the finest wines. She can speak and sing in Elvish, play several instruments, dance the Bellicrepa and rattle off poetry at the drop of a hat. She never wanted for anything except attention which is why she asked for tutors in the arts, hoping that her voice might one day turn the heads of her family members.
This was not the case.
Tiffany never got much attention from her father or siblings. Her mother, Sennia, died in childbirth when she was 16, and was swiftly replaced by another younger more pliable elven woman who was quickly made pregnant by her father. This soured Tiffany's opinion on marriage to a noble, even as she turned the heads of such people at the lavish balls her father hosted. One day, she snuck out into the city without an escort and wandered around the upper crust until she found a tavern with a singing minstrel. Before the man could even finish his song, she shoved him off the stage and began to sing, earning the applause of all present.
Tiffany (the Epiphany) made her debut at the Tipsy Temple Tavern where rich merchants and pious worshippers broke bread in the more well-to-do part of town. It was an easy crowd and the attention went straight to her head. She demanded that she be allowed to perform every night and began a bitter rivalry with a human woman named Donnie Dawn. She was as good if not a better musician than Tiffany, though she would never admit it. Donnie looked dull and plain when compared with Tiffany's ethereal beauty and half-elven grace (and magic bard powers thanks to the tutoring).
The petty rivalry continued until Tiffany's father demanded she marry on her 20th birthday. When she publicly refused at the gala held in her honour, he chose a suitor for her - Cassius Í Calculus - and set the date for the wedding. Tiffany packed her bag, her favourite gown and all her music, instruments and sheets, and set out on the road. She took a pouch of her earnings and paid for a merchant to smuggle her out of the city. Outside the walls, they encountered bandits and creatures and Tiffany managed to subdue them with just the power of her voice, boosting her ego.
When the caravan reached its destination - the small town of Freewater - she realised that playing music for the poor would not fill her purse quite as much as it had in the city and so, her funds began to dwindle. Tiffany continued to travel and perform but after a while, a contingent of men in armour appeared to ambush her. They bore no livery but she recognised their voices. The men had been sent by her father to escort her back home.
Tiffany used some trickery to escape their grasp and fled into a nearby forest. Several hours later, she emerged in the exact same spot to find her attackers had been killed and now lay bleeding by the side of the road. A group of mercenaries had engaged them in combat and now stood victorious and very heroic looking. Tiffany asked if she could join them.
