Captain Ilyra Venn is a field officer of the Lords' Alliance based primarily in Neverwinter and serves as one of the Alliance's principal contacts with the Glassfang Syndicate. Her work centers on coordinating operations that require outside adventurers, passing along verified intelligence, and acting as the point of contact between Syndicate teams and Alliance personnel in the field.
Although Ilyra holds the rank of Captain within the Lords' Alliance, she does not command members of the Glassfang Syndicate. She treats the Syndicate as an independent organization whose adventurers have agreed to assist the Alliance, providing objectives, available intelligence, transportation arrangements, and operational contacts while leaving the Syndicate to determine how best to complete the work.
Ilyra has little patience for dressing uncertain information up as fact. When a matter falls outside her expertise, particularly highly technical arcane work, she is generally willing to say so and direct questions toward the people who actually know the answer. This has made her a practical intermediary between adventurers, Alliance officers, intelligence personnel, and specialists whose work would otherwise require considerably more explanation.
Ilyra's working relationship with Glassfang began on 11 Eleasis, 1502 DR, when she recruited a Syndicate team to escort an Alliance supply caravan north along the High Road and investigate a missing scouting patrol. What began as a routine assignment developed into a month-long investigation involving stolen Neverwinter defensive materials, dangerous spatial disturbances, the ancient Aegis Core, and the unauthorized research of Aderyn Kest within the Cloak Tower.
Over the course of that investigation, Ilyra became the consistent Alliance contact between several different Syndicate teams. She returned with new assignments as information from previous missions was analyzed, coordinated transportation and Alliance support, and ensured that discoveries made by one group could be carried forward by the next.
The investigation ended on 11 Eleint, 1502 DR, when Glassfang adventurers entered the compromised section of the Cloak Tower, stopped Kest's unstable aperture, and captured him alive. In the aftermath, Ilyra informed the Syndicate that their actions had earned considerable standing with the Lords' Alliance. She was equally clear that such recognition did not make them members of the Alliance; formal membership remained a separate pledge and a personal choice.
The safe portions of Kest's teleportation research were later approved for further development, ultimately resulting in the establishment of a permanent teleportation connection between Neverwinter and the Glassfang Syndicate. Ilyra remains closely associated with the events that led to that connection and continues to serve as a familiar Alliance contact for Syndicate business involving Neverwinter.
Occupation
Lords' Alliance Captain and Field Liaison
Appearance
Ilyra is tall and broad through the shoulders, with deep brown skin and tightly braided black hair threaded with premature gray. She wears a dark blue traveling coat over practical armor. She carries a narrow leather document case and generally keeps her equipment functional rather than decorative.
Personality
Direct, practical, and professional. Ilyra does not waste time, but she is not cold. She will correct foolish behavior, but she is not looking for excuses to belittle adventurers.
Background
Ilyra is an experienced Lords’ Alliance officer who has spent much of her career working in and around Neverwinter. Her role focuses on field coordination, intelligence, and working with independent adventurers when Alliance interests require outside assistance. Though a capable soldier herself, she is now more often found organizing operations and making sure the right people have the information and resources they need.
