The Golden Rule

Come prepared.

Make sure you know exactly what your Shūji, Rituals, and other courtly techniques do, and that you understand the rules for them before the game begins. We will not have time to flip through rules mid-negotiation!

Attendance & Sign-Ups

• Restriction: Characters with the school tag Courtier, Crane or Unicorn will have the highest priority for this political arrangement. This means I will add a temporar +10 Priority to characters with either Courtier Tag or one of the mentioned Clans.
  Phoenix, Dragon and Dragonfly Characters will get a +5 for signing up.
  Characters without at least 1 Rank in Courtesy or Sentiment or Theology will not be accepted.
• Special: Ronin, Scorpion and Lion characters will have to pay 2 Favour or a bribe of 200 zeni to be allowed to this gathering, as they need to pull some strings for the Crane to accept their presence.
  These characters still need to meet the Skill requirement.
  Dishonorable souls may try to disguise themselves as a Crane, this will cost a downtime action and will reduce the cost to 1 Favour or 50zeni.
• The Grace Period: If you give advance warning that you are running late for the opening ceremonies, you will be granted a 30-minute grace period to make your arrival. Failing to show up within those 30 minutes (or missing the event with no warning) means forfeiting your spot and taking a standard no-show penalty.

Pacing & Response Times

To maintain the momentum of our courtly intrigue within the walls of Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru—a political landscape detailed in the RichFrogCity file—players are expected to adhere to the strict etiquette of time.

• The 12-Hour Window: You have a 12-hour window to post your action for each round.
• Forfeiture: Exceeding this 12-hour window without communication means your character is assumed to be lost in thought, leading to a forfeiture of your action and 0 Momentum for that round.
• Need more time? The court can be accommodating if approached properly. Simply asking a clarifying question in the chat or communicating with the GM that you are drafting your response will secure your turn and reset your timer.

The Pillars of Courtly Negotiation

In each round, you can choose how to influence the families. Your approach depends on the skills you employ, though there may be reasons to use other skills too (for a full reference, consult CheatSheet.xlsx):

• Culture (The Social Compass): Recall the specific regional customs of the Crane to suggest the perfect seating arrangements or ceremonial colors.
• Sentiment (The Clear Mirror): Read the subtle emotional cues of the bride and groom to align the ceremony with their true, unstated desires.
• Courtesy (The Elegant Trail): Flawlessly navigate Rokugani etiquette to persuade the families to hold the wedding in Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru.
• Government (The Law's Measure): Apply your understanding of political machinations and Rokugan's strict legal system to smoothly handle the logistics of the event.
• Commerce (The Merchant's Coin): Negotiate with the Imperial Governor's agents and tariff assessors along the Three Sides River to ensure the local merchants can support such an extravagant affair.
• Theology (The Kami's Whisper): Utilize your knowledge of religious doctrines and philosophical rituals to properly advise on the officiating Shugenja.

Schedule of the Court

The negotiations will unfold over a period of 120 hours OOC. To keep the pace of courtly life, 12 hours Out-of-Character (OOC) will equate to 1 round of In-Character (IC) time. Missing your turn means your character was lost in thought; you will receive 0 Momentum for that round.

The Grand Objectives & Momentum

To shape the wedding, you must track your progress using momentum points:

• Secure the Location:
  Persuade the families to hold the wedding in Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru, a neutral city run by an Imperial Governor. Requires 20 Momentum.
• Each character will also receive 1 individual goal and a fitting momentum for this.

Note that if you wish to pursue your own goals outside of the frame set here, this will lead to your PC only receiving the baseline XP, loss of Honor & Glory and no monetary reward.
