For the second year in a row, the Unicorn farming village of Onon Mura, situated along the Lion-Unicorn border just outside the City of the Rich Frog, faces a poor harvest. Now, as food stores dwindle and the coming harvest looks increasingly uncertain, a strange illness has begun to spread among the villagers.

Fearing disease is responsible, the village headwoman, Adya, has traveled to the city seeking samurai willing to investigate and, if the Fortunes are kind, find some way to help her people. Unfortunately, with the village's tax assessment soon due, Adya has little to offer in the way of payment befitting noble samurai, and many have already turned down her request for aid.

The village's troubles may prove more complicated than they first appear. Those with a talent for medicine may find their skills particularly valuable, but keen investigators, skilled courtiers, capable warriors, and those attuned to the spirits will each find opportunities to make a difference.
