Idris Sunblaze hails from the sun-blessed isle of Rhadia where he served as a priest of Ferri Androthus in the Cathedral of the Stars. He is an unimportant scion of the Sunblaze dynasty which has ruled over Rhadia for centuries and in order to reduce the number of royal heirs running about he was promised to the Cathedral and thus removed from potential succession in a socially acceptable way. While other people might have become bitter at this, Idris harboured no designs on the throne and found the work of an acolyte spiritually fulfilling.

Shortly after Idris's eighteenth birthday, Corathan, a member of the Brotherhood of the Burning Sepulchre came to Rhadia. Meeting Corathan and hearing him speak of the Reconquista and the great quest to recapture the Burning Sepulchre inspired the young priest and he resolved to join the crusade. Fortunately he had the sense to complete his training first, but as soon as he fully ordained as a Cleric of Ferri Androthus he set out on the long journey to the Blighted Lands.
