Welcome to Brimoire: The Frontier of Lian Hu
1. What This Campaign Is About
The game is set on the island of Brimoire, the last true wilderness of Lian Hu. On the northern coast lies Bastion, the only bastion of civilisation. From here, adventurers travel forth to reclaim what was lost over 2,000 years ago — to explore, map, uncover treasures, and fight back the monsters and enemies of civilisation.
This is a game about loyalty tested under pressure.
- Tone: Dark, morally grey high fantasy
- What makes it distinct: While it features the familiar trappings of high fantasy, it is fundamentally about navigating relational fractures.
- Decisions that matter: Loyalty vs advantage, truth vs stability, mercy vs security, righteousness vs unity, ends vs means. Every choice carries consequences beyond your own group.
2. How the West Marches Structure Works
This is not a hero’s journey. It’s a frontier.
- Player-driven and modular: You propose jobs, explore ruins, and uncover secrets. No single group “owns” the story.
- The world exists independently: The island does not wait for your party. Every session contributes to a shared chronicle of tension, factional strain, and shifting loyalties.
- Hex-crawl exploration: Each expedition reveals the unknown, exposes ancient fractures, and tests the bonds between adventurers.
- History is written in fragments: Different characters uncover different truths. Different groups make decisions that ripple outward.
- Reputation matters: One group’s choice affects the jobs, rumours, and opportunities available to the next.
- Institutional memory builds slowly: Maps, political fallout, rumours, and unfinished business create a living, volatile frontier.
Sessions are calendar-driven: Tuesday fortnightly at 8 PM.
3. How Scheduling Works
- Discuss availability in Discord.
- Once a date is agreed, the official session is created on Westmarches.
- You must sign up on Westmarches to secure your seat.
- Each session includes a link to Roll20 for tactical play and Demiplane for character sheets.
Discord is for discussion; Westmarches is for official scheduling and record-keeping.
4. Advancement and Characters
- Advancement: Earned through milestones. Attendance matters — if you miss the bulk of an adventure, you do not receive the milestone.
- Additional rewards (“Boons”): Granted for being the MVP of a session (voted by players), for taking notes, or at the GM’s discretion. Boons can be used to purchase character bonuses and unlock features of magical items.
- Death is final: There is no resurrection in Lian Hu. Characters who die can reappear as undead (zombies, ghosts, etc.) if proper burials are not observed.
- Loot: Treasure and magical items are not inherently persistent — items may be lost, stolen, or otherwise moved between characters depending on the story.
- Character swaps: Players are encouraged to swap characters based on adventure needs or group composition.
