In the corner of the tavern lies a rather, unremarkable figure dressed in black with a mask and hat over their face. . . .Well- who are we kidding here. This is Wan, a Wayfarer, formerly a trouble making orphaned petty little thief before being taken in by a gang of "Shadow Watchers". They are like Robin Hoods, but they also take a portion of what they stole. . .so I guess it's still thievery. Life there was fine yaddi yadda yadda Wan sees the good in necessary evil, have good outlook to life. Then they walked in on their leader dead on the ground, them rich mofos got mad at us and launched a large attack intending to wipe us out-. . . . "This shit is taking too long to write" [The figure puts down the pen in their hand, lines of ink lie on the pages of this worn-out notebook. . . . .Let's just learn their backstory as we get to know them more yeah?]
Locations of Visit: Town of ~~Transilvania~~ Transville. Fishmen Tribe Terriory and An Great Monster's Lair
Notable Characters: PCs (Wan, Morban, Ellianna, D), NPCs (Transville Guards, Hooded Captain, Fishmen Guards, Fishmen Spokeperson)
What happened: Characters gathered in tavern, took a day to prepare, then head off to Transville. Upon arriving, is met with guards and escorted to the captain, on the way is scene of sick people, just like the notice has said. Captain reveals that the previous team, consisting of 16 people, noted that they knew a place for medicinal herbs and if it doesn't work they move to another location, but in the end they never returned. Some inquiries later, the party heads off to the original spot, which is blocked by the territory of a fishmen tribe. Wan started off trying to converse, after learning they know common, the party persuaded the guard (with the promise to make it more attractive for mates, ew) to meet with the spokeperson (or spokefish). Spokefish then smack the guardfish silly, telling it to know its place, then the party bargains with them, with no need for materials within the tribe, the spokefish then suggest a deal to subjugate a monster near the territory for passage to the herbs. Agreeing to the deal, the party heads out, but what they met was not a normal monstrous threat like wild owlbears, it was a huge winged monster with tentacles and many eyes, capable of casting spells and dealing mental harm, ripping away memories- almost like an Aboleth but not at the same time. A struggle ensues, the party taking mental damage, losing memories, poisoned by the air and still having to deal with its tentacles, but victorious in the end nontheless. Combat was standard, until it successfully mind controlled Morban to attack the party, as Ellianna was then forced to step up, leading to her falling unconscious several times as D and Wan helped her up while helping Morban pile on the damage after his un-charmed-ing. The party was, well- fine now but due to a previous deal to bring the body back for the fishmen to eat, their intention to keep the body for harvest or selling to the guild was unfortunately abandoned, at least a pair of archery was found in the lair- which was then promptly given to Wan as the only exclusive bow user. Being granted passage, the party picked the herbs and uprooted a sizable amount of shrubs, intending to leave them for the town to cultivate outside of the fishmen's territory, for there probably won't be a next time, unless a large-scale takeover is in place. With that, they recieve their rewards, and head back, probably to a good bath after the whole mess that is the swampy Monster's Lair
The quest was a short yet digestible one. Starting off, the party appeared at the docks, called over by the Harbormaster to inquire the fishermens, whose visibly damaged boats has just made back to shore, about the dangers that has been haunting them at sea.
After not getting much out of the sailors due to the sudden nature of these attacks, the party sets off to sea for themselves (pun was intentional). After a bit of fishing to simulate a fisher boat and make themselves a target, crocodiles appeared to try and tear into the vessel. Unfortunately for them, luck wasn't on their side, their numbers thinned quickly, a giant crocodile appeared but it stood no chance and the trouble was gone in less than a minute.
To celebrate, the party was up for a fishing tournament, for sport and to help increase the fish stash that the fishermens have, some were very lucky catchers, some were cursed by Poseidon himself, but in the end everyone had their fun, and got some gold rewards, until they reached shore again.
And, that's about it, due to the limited budget because of the attacks that dwindled the dock's wealth, they were only able to provide rewards in the form of rations. Well- what can ya do, being good doesn't entail extravagant rewards anyway :)
