Session 1 Recap
The story so far; Day One (5am to 2:30pm):
Our monstrous heroes had traveled for months to escape the blighted lands of the old world, along with 500ish other monstrous refugees led by a kobold that claimed to be a dragon (Zarvelis).
They arrived in a location that appears to be their new home, early in the morning.
The dragon Zarvelis Showed her true form and announced her plans to build a lair there.
All may stay. Those that leave may return.
The characters learned that the nearby creek had gone dry. During a conversation with hobgoblins (scouts and a lieutenant serving Karvek)
A lone goblin tried to catch a puddle-stranded fish barehanded in the background.
They followed the dry stream bed to it's water source.
Some giant beavers with odd behaviors and symptoms had dammed the water flow - causing runoff in a different direction.
The beavers were definitely "not right" but no one had the right skills, or high enough checks, to determine the cause.
They slew the beavers and cleared enough of the blockage to make water run again downstream.
They confronted a crazy old dwarf, slew his giant magically-strange giant fox companions, and took him prisoner.
Strange evidence they could not find answers for:
Magic staff shaped like an upside-down small sapling, with glassy roots at it's head
Beavers were gigantic, "twitchy," with swollen gums and clouded eyes
Foxes were bigger than a goblin, and have glassy crystalline legs
In the spring that feeds this water source, glassy roots tendril-up out of the water and something definitely feels "off"
The characters suspect that a magic staff is the cause of the trouble - and confiscated it along with his other meager belongings.
The characters scared off a bear that was trying to poach the meat.
They now prepare to return to camp with carcasses and a prisoner in-tow, so that they can find help in getting answers.
The Haul: 2 gold, 860 pounds of carcasses, a scroll (Which was promptly forgotten in Zib's Bag)
