Backstory

In the time of the gods, statues were used as vessels for the gods to convey their will to the people. One of these was named Diligence, and they spent many a year guiding the people in loyal service. They were concerned with the growing power and hubris of the god-king, but trusted that it was all part of the great plan.

When the gods abandoned the world, none felt it as deeply as their vessels. Riven from the divine link and cast out into the darkness, they felt the gods' punishment on the world was unfair. Diligence changed their name to Spite to reflect their new calling.

How did you come to be at Emberfin?

Did your ancestors move here, or did your last settlement collapse and you found home here?

Spite has wandered from place to place since the fall, sometimes being useful, but often simply disappearing. Sometimes they wander back to a settlement they once rested at and find it lost. Spite is mildly surprised to find Emberfin still here. For now.

What do you see when you stare into the inky void of night for too long?

Before the fall, the night sky was alive with echoes of the divine, a canvas of ever-renewed joy. No longer. Spite sees only what was taken from us.

Why have you not given up yet?

No matter how long it takes, the traitor gods must be made to feel the pain of their cruelty.
