Britain is preparing for the new millennium.

Everyone is arguing about the Millennium, mobile phones are becoming fashionable, the internet takes five minutes to connect, and the charts are filled with music recorded onto homemade cassette tapes.

Magic is real, although most ordinary people never notice it.

Behind the crumbling walls of an old Midlands castle stands Castle High - A School for the Magically Inclined, a state-funded secondary school for children whose talents are too strange, dangerous or unpredictable for an ordinary comprehensive.

Its pupils wear blazers over chainmail, carry wands beside their fountain pens and race enchanted broomsticks behind the bicycle sheds.

The computer room is ran by Byte the very angry gremlin

The school minibus occasionally becomes a dragon.

And the caretaker insists that the fifth-floor corridor has never existed.
