Born into House Cavoviir, his Matron Mother made an oath to Lolth to slay all sons she produced in the Spider Queen’s name so that her family would receive her favor. When Illiland was born, he was assigned female at birth and named Illianna, the 8th child to be born into House Cavoviir. From an early age, the young Illianna knew there was something very different about them, not only in nature (they did not lavish in the cruelty that other Drows did) but they did not fit their body. It was a secret Illianna needed to keep given their mother’s oath but also witnessed how males in Drow society were treated. For nearly 40 years, Illianna played the charade of being a studious daughter until they were given the option to choose how they would show their devotion to Lolth. The choice was obvious - a Druid - and Illianna explained that tending to the sacred spiders and learning how to maintain their environment for their well being could be seen as an act of dedication to the Spider Queen. The Matron Mother of House Cavoriir gave permission for the child to pursue this path. To have a being so connected to spiders, the Matron Mother believed this would allow Lolth to smile upon their family even more.
The first decade of training was spent with the Druids of the Underdark, who worked within the premises of the Sussar Tree, honing their skills in apothecary and herb blending to make potions. It was here, Illianna learned how to craft a testosterone heavy tea. After completing their training in the Underdark, the Archdruid asked if they wanted to pursue further studies on the surface and Illianna jumped at the opportunity to escape the Underdark.
After several years as a student on the surface, Illiland grew into his true self. He changed his name, cut his hair and for years bound his chest until another student helped him in his transition and taught him how to make a special tea to help shape his body beyond what the testosterone tea could. At last, Illiland had grown into a body that was properly his but feared returning to the Underdark. Every day, he wakes up afraid he would encounter another Drow and the truth of his transformation would reach the ears of his blood-thirsty family.
Now years later, Illiland travels continuing his studies in Druid magic and the advancements of medicinal herbs. Specializing in the care of spiders, he does so out of a connection to his past rather than a devotion to Lolth.
