West Marches campaigns are unique among campaign formats due to their player-driven nature. This entry details how players can interact with the campaign before and after their adventuring session.
These are some of the ways players can interact with the campaign outside of adventuring in the Ashen Marches.
Before your adventure starts:
After your adventure has concluded:
The adventure board channel in Discord is where adventures created here are automatically posted. If there is an interesting adventure happening at a convenient time for you, you can interact with the bot's post by clicking the join button. You can join even if the adventure has not yet been claimed by a GM or is full. Doing so signals player interest in the adventure or adds you to the waitlist.
If, in the rumors channel in Discord, there is a specific rumor that sounds interesting to you, or if the adventures in the adventure board are all full, you can create an adventure for other players to join.
but first:
If a GM's available timeslots work for you, create that adventure making sure to correctly set the time.
Once the bot posts your new adventure in the Discord's adventure-board channel. Link to this Discord post in a comment under the rumor you decided to pursue. This pushes pursued rumors to the top and shows others also interested in the rumor that an adventure is already being planned.
GM Profiles:
You've joined or created an adventure! Great! But you can't be a party of one!
Interact in the server advertising the adventure, you'll need someone to revive you when you're down after all.
Alternatively recruit your D&D or TTRPG-playing friends from outside the server to join.
The comments under the bot-posted adventure in the adventure-board Discord channel is a great place for you to interact with your party. RP and discuss treasure allocation to your hearts content.
There may be some details that need to be hashed out before your party can depart.
Most importantly, when are you leaving Last Lantern? Please reference the Time Tracking house rules as well as the official calendar (can be found in the important-websites Discord channel). All player characters must be in Last Lantern at the in-game date of your party's departure.
Additionally, inform yourself and your party of the Returning to Town house rules and, if necessary, make contingency plans to avoid a hurried return.
After returning to town there are multiple ways to use what happened during your session to contribute to our community. The most important of these are Session Reports. (GMs may at their discretion dispense rewards for writing or contributing to a session report as well as writing rumors {detailed below}.)
Please start your writing by copying the Session Report Template into your post in the session-reports Discord channel. This template is designed to loosely structure your writing in order to make sure all the most important details are covered. Once you write and post your report, add a link to it in the comments of the rumor your party pursued. Feel free to also mention if this rumor is "cleared" or may be requiring the attention of another party. This way pursued rumors will have comments under them detailing progress made towards their conclusion.
If, on your adventure, you learn new information you think would warrant investigation by another party (or yourself at a later time), consider writing a rumor.
As with session reports, there is a Rumor Template available to you. Include all of the information you know about this rumor and post it in the rumors Discord channel. A more detailed rumor is a more interesting rumor.
As part of your session report you noted the departure and return dates of your party to and from Last Lantern. If events haven't already been added, create events on these dates to the official calendar (can be found in the important-websites Discord channel). Use the official calendar entry template.
Spread your tale and exploits around the RP channels of the Discord. That's what taverns are for after all.
