He grew in the village of Lone Grove, which was attacked when Rochester was a very small boy. Most of the village was killed or maimed, including his parents. His neighbor, Ada, took him in to raise as her own despite having being maimed and crippled herself. As a result, he learned to cook, clean, sew, read, write not only for Ada but many of the other villagers as well. He found a book on magic that ignited his interest in wizardry and how it can help people. He started researching magic items, novelties that were from the Age of Despair, meant to entertain lords and highborn that could be repurposed to help people of the world like Ada and others who have similar limitations.

While growing up there was not much ever said about the night his parents died. The villagers only referred to it as "That one Time" so he has not ever had any clues to follow, but always keeps an eye and ear open for stories that have similarities to his villages own, perhaps one day, he will learn the truth.
