Alaya is about 26 years old, and has spent most of her life in the local temple acting as a cleric's apprentice. The first twelve years of her life were however spent in the orphanage, so anyone who lived there in that time likely knows of her as well. Any time not spent at the temple is spent either at the hospital offering healing services, or doing chores around town.
Alaya and her twin, Vesper, don't have memories of their parents. The pair were found on the doorstep of the local orphanage at a young age, and this is where they were raised from there. Alaya grew up as a soft spoken girl -- polite, calm, some might even say feeble. Quite the opposite to her more rambunctious and brash sister who often got into all sorts of trouble around the orphanage and town. Trouble that Alaya more often than not tried to get her out of.
In her early years, Alaya enjoyed being taught of faith, the different gods, and so on. She rarely ventured beyond the orphanage grounds to see the outside, though heard plenty of stories about it from Vesper. Whenever she did dare to explore without the supervision of one of the adults, it was always an adventure. On one such venture she met a group of children from town.
This encounter lead to Alaya sneaking out of the orphanage more and more over the next few months, wanting to keep playing games with her new friends. That came to an abrupt end when Vesper angered the wrong thug when the group was playing Scouts. The man grabbed the young Satyr and tossed her into a nearby wall, leaving her in a crumpled heap-- and something in Alaya burst to life. A voice spoke deep in the back of her mind, driving her to protect her sister and friends. Darkness radiated from her palm as she calmly approached the man, a simple touch of her hand to his leg sending him stumbling back cursing in pain as the flesh beneath his ragged pants bubbled and split. With a final curse, and a warning, he turned and fled.
While Alaya may have saved her sister, after that the other children were a bit too frightened of her to let her play with them anymore. A few days after the incident, a cleric from the local temple arrived at the orphanage with some questions for Alaya. After eliminating all other possibilities, they determined that the magic she had used was divine in nature, and decided to take the young Satyr under her care as an apprentice.
In the following years, most of Alaya's time was spent at the temple, continuing with her duties, and in her free time visiting her sister or tending to other tasks. Healing, helping, this is how the magic of a cleric was to be used, not to harm-- this is what her master made a habit of telling her. A lesson she took to heart. From then on she would use her magic to help the people of Underhaven, and leave the harming to those better suited for it.
