Auren Moonvale was raised on a small family farm surrounded by quiet fields and distant hills. His childhood was shaped by honest work—rising before dawn, tending crops, repairing fences, and helping neighboring families through difficult harvests. His family worshiped Morpheus the Dreamer, Lord of Twilight and god of dreams, healing, rest, and sanctuary. Each evening, they prayed for peaceful sleep, protection through the night, and the strength to face another day.
Auren’s divine gift first appeared in quiet, subtle ways. Withered plants recovered beneath his hands, injured animals rested peacefully in his presence, and strange dreams warned him whenever danger approached the farm. An owl would sometimes appear outside his window after these visions, silently watching him before disappearing into the night. Auren came to believe that Morpheus had chosen him to carry comfort and protection into places where fear had taken hold.
His calling became undeniable when creatures emerged from the wilderness during a moonless night. With no weapon and little training, Auren stood between the creatures and his family. As he prayed to Morpheus, silver-blue light spread around the farmhouse like a protective sanctuary. His frightened family felt their pain ease and their courage return, while the creatures recoiled from the divine radiance. By sunrise, the creatures had fled, and everyone inside the farmhouse remained alive. Perched upon the roof was a lone owl, watching over them as dawn broke.
A traveling priest later recognized Auren’s power as the blessing of Morpheus. Auren left his farm and became a Twilight Domain cleric, carrying the sanctuary of twilight into dangerous places. Despite his armor and growing divine power, he still carries a small bundle of wheat from his family’s final harvest—a reminder of his humble beginnings and the people he first learned to protect.
Although Auren is still young, he has already survived many adventures and several encounters with death. These experiences have taught him that people, monsters, and even apparent miracles are not always what they seem. He has become more observant and less trusting of first impressions, yet he refuses to let hardship destroy his kindness. He is still inexperienced and has much to learn, but every journey strengthens his faith, sharpens his judgment, and brings him closer to understanding why Morpheus chose him.
To Auren, twilight is not the victory of darkness. It is a sacred moment of rest and protection—the promise that those who endure the night may live to see the dawn.
