Letter found on Tora's body:
Hey, Mom and Dad!
I’m writing to tell you that I messed up, and I’m sorry. My mentor kicked me out. It was my fault, so there’s no need for you to write a letter demanding that they take me back.
That being said, I'm sorry, but I’m not coming back home. Not yet, at least. I’m sorry for being a bad student. I know how much it took for dad to land this mentorship. I’m also sorry for being a bad daughter because I can’t face you after letting you down. Maybe I’m simply not brave enough for that.
I recently picked up a job. It was adventuring work. I know you think those jobs are dangerous, but they’re necessary. When I was there, I think I might have saved someone’s life. If I hadn’t been there, another adventurer might have died. I have a feeling that I was given this magic for a reason and that I can make a difference out there, not in a dusty library.
I probably won’t be home for the harvest this year, but I promise to visit before the next one. When I do, I’ll bring a tome full of stories about my adventures.
With love,
Tora.
