While disconnected from the dying land of Semaji, three adventurers are nonetheless intrigued by the trials and challenges of the dwarven ruins. Entering the large chamber on the third floor, they faced the four elemental guardians. The guardians appear when their specific door is opened and entered through; and a large door lies at the other end of the chamber bearing all four elemental sigils. The guardians respawn as long as their entrance door remains open.
With some luck, methodical testing, and several wounds, they uncovered that activating the sigils on the far door requires summoning the guardians in pairs - Water and Fire, Fire and Air, Air and Earth, Earth and Water - and they will attack each other if no other targets are present. Once each guardian destroys its counterpart, the sigils on the far door light up and the door opens.
A significant hoard of treasure was behind it! But as yet, nothing of use in saving the dying land.
