Daneel Deckard was born on earth, but he spent very little of his life there.

When he was very young he was caught up in that most classic of science fiction tropes - a teleporter accident. An interstellar survey ship had dispatched a small support craft carrying an anthropologist and a physicist to investigate the third planet orbiting a yellow star, which appeared to have been giving off radio waves.

The anthropologist, Rorthax, had almost completed their survey when they saw a young human approaching the advanced hide that they had been using to investigate Earth culture. Deciding that there was nothing to be gained from staying any longer, Rorthax signalled to be returned to their ship. Unfortunately, that signal was sent a little late and the beam was set a little wide.

When they were several systems away Rorthax and his colleague Vaisir discovered their mistake. Unable to get permission to take their small stowaway back to Earth, they raised him as their own child. Now, a decade later, they have finally received permission to take him back. Daneel doesn't particularly want to return to his rather boring planet of origin but his adoptive parents have insisted that he should experience something of his original home before deciding whether he wants to leave it for good. They have arranged for him to be enrolled at Eclipse Academy to give him the best chance possible to integrate with other Earthlings his own age.

Having 'borrowed' some advanced technology to ease his two years on the planet Daneel has decided that he might as well do some good while he is in Halcyon City and, more importantly, have some fun while doing it.
