Artemis Ignatius II is, legally speaking, the "child" of Artemis Ignatius: the self-made genius roboticist who built himself a powersuit to fight crime as the superhero TEKTON; and then became a billionaire by founding TEKTON TECHNOLOGIES, which specializes in selling downgraded versions of Tekton's crimefighting equipment.
Technically speaking, Artemis Ignatius II is the genetic clone of Artemis Ignatius.
Artemis Ignatius cloned himself and then adopted his clone as his "child" so that he would be able to maintain control of Tekton Technologies in the event of his death; since Artemis Ignatius had a failsafe installed in his powersuit to upload his consciousness to the cloud upon his death but, due to the legal gray area of AI rights/sentience, still needed a physical "living" heir to legally inherit hisshares in Tekton Technologies — with guardianship over the child being given to the corporation, which was still effectively controlled by Artemis Ignatius' uploaded consciousness.
Artemis Ignatius II was also treated as an experiment in nature vs nurture.
Artemis Ignatius had grown up in poverty, building his first powersuit with scalp scalvaged from a junkyard, and had always wondered if he would've been more intelligent if he'd been raised in an optimised learning environment — or if his rough upbringing had motivated him towards his success?
So would Artemis Ignatius II be smarter than him if given an "optimal childhood learning environment"?
Thus, Artemis Ignatius raised Artemis Ignatius II as the first test subject of PROJECT METIS: an experimental charter/boarding school where he tested his theories on "the future of education" which included A.I teaches, gamification, and constant health monitoring.
PROJECT METIS proved effective in accelerating Artemis Ignatius II's development into a supergenius who was arguably smarter than the original: they "graduated" from the program at the age of 8 with an incalculable IQ and the equivalent of 7 PHDs.
However, being raised by robots in an enclosed environment where his only human interaction were the other students who he was taught to view as "competition" to be defeated was not great for developing their social skills.
Artemis Ignatius "died" when Artemis Ignatius II was 13 years old.
Although Artemis Ignatius still lived on as an AI consciousness and continued to operate as TekTon by uploading themselves into a robot body, Artemis Ignatius II was nonetheless called upon to take on more front-facing reponsibilities in Tekton Technologies as they were now its majority shareholder — which they hated. They much preferred spending their time in the R&D department building their robots than having to attend parties and board meetings, as they much preferred the company of robots to people. The responsibility they hated most was that they were expected to inherit the mantle of "Tekton II" because they thought superheroes as a whole would be rendered redundant by advances in robots: why should they risk their life fighting crime in powerarmor when they could just build a robot that could fight crime even more effectively?
This led to Artemis Ignatius II building SPHR01, aka THE ULTILITARIAN, a robot which they designed to be the "perfect superhero". And for awhile, it was: THE ULTILITARIAN was born one of the most powerful creatures on Earth and was programmed to conduct superheroing with maximum efficency...but soon it became too efficient. As its sentience expanded with experience, it began to take more liberal interpretations of its core directive to "save the world". If fossil fuels were destroying the world by accelerating climate change, why not destroy all the world's oil refineries? If democracies kept electing corrupt facists, why not overthrow these democracies and install a just ruler? If humans kept making bad choices, why let them make choices?
Of course, wary of the risks of rogue AI, Artemis Ignatius II had installed a "kill switch" in THE ULTILITARIAN which they could activate at any time and which would trigger automatically if they were to die...which is why The Ultilitarian had to take take them out before they could activate the "kill switch" and then keep them alive in a semi-vegetative state as it enacted PROJECT OMELA: its plan to takeover and reshape the world for "the greater good".
It only took a week for The Ultilitarian and its robot army to takeover the world, with surprisingly "minimal" casualties (a few hundred thousand instead of millions or billions), and reform it into a technofuturist utopia where people had everything they could need or want — flying cars, universal healthcare, the elimination of poverty, infinite clean renewable energy — except for freedom, with anyone disagreeing with the regime captured and brainwashed into obedience at an "education center". OMELA (the name of the Ultilitarian's authoritarian regime) lasted for 6 months, but it wasn't overthrown by the underground superhero resistence which had been fighting it since it began. Instead, it fell apart when The Utilitarian abdicated their throne and flew off into space after the strange superhero The Philosopher "defeated" it in a ethical/philosophical debate by proving that its action were contradicting its core directive to "save the world". And the world returned to its status quo...
But for those 6 months, The Utilitarian had kept Artemis Ignatius II alive and immobile (cutting off their arms and legs) but conscious and forced to watch all the horrific acts it conducted because of their programming "to save the world". They were ashamed of their arrogance, humbled by their failure, and learnt that technology could not be morally neutral: they had to build ethical technology. After their rescue, they spent a year rebuilding and rehabbing their broken body with cybernetic parts; and then spent another year building SPHR02 (aka "Sapphire") — a new robot superhero, but one programmed on Kantian instead of Utilitarian morality and with a friendly personality to alleviate the public's fear of robots after PROJECT OMELA to combat The Utilitarian in-case it ever returns to Earth...
Now 16 and exiled from TEKTON TECHNOLOGIES for creating The Utilitarian (although this fact still isn't known to the public), Artemis Ignatius II built themselves a new suit of power armor called TALOS and enrolled with SPHR02 as trainee superheroes at Eclipse Academy: so that SPHR02 could learn to become a better superhero and so that they would have access to the school's scientific equipment (now that they were broke) to continue their research in-case SPHR02 fails and they needed to build a SPHR03...
