Throughout his childhood, his closest friends were a pair of tiefling siblings, named Desdemon and Oleander, and they were a practically inseparable trio. However, the day did come where they were forcefully seperated by the hands of fate, as the two had simply upped and disappeared one day, never to be seen again. No bodies were ever found like they just vanished without a trace, much to the dread and confusion of those who searched.
Axeswing was raised with this spirit of community and respect for the crafts, and helped care for the kids whenever one of his parents were occupied. As he grew older, he discovered more of himself, including the vision he had for his mortal vessel and identity. However, just as all teenage adventurers are in their foolish youth, he had found himself involved in a series of quests that led him to a cultist posing as a cleric that promised to mold his body in his vision. Thankfully, with the resilience of his willpower, the tendril-like tattoo brands that sought to enslave his mind were easily resisted, and the cultist had his face caved in.

For most of his life since then, he had reforged himself as Sawtooth, after his favourite tool in his chosen woodworking specialty as a boatbuilder. He had grown a reputation as the orc who defends the small, both literally and figuratively. Children, smallfolk and the meek frequently seek his aide whenever they are bullied by those who see themselves as higher. By age 35, both his parents had passed, due to the relatively short lifespans of their species generation at 60. His mother passed earlier, falling ill of a cough that went too long and took too much. His father merely a few years later, some say of heartbreak.

Sawtooth kept Redgear Foster going so future generations of the craftsmen who built Baldur's Gate can keep it alive. It was his main purpose that he was more than happy to tend to until the end of his days. However, the memory of his two childhood best friends still followed him all these years, a stubborn flicker of hope that they were still alive. He longed to search for them, but responsibility held him back... until an opportunity came in the form of suspicious sounds in the night.
Sawtooth found a Lolth-sworn drow, red-eyed and red-handed, with a paltry bounty of food stolen from Redgear's pantry. The drow was caught... and promptly fed and cared for, becoming part of the daycare's staff and resident to the home above it as the orc's new roomie. Sawtooth appreciated Bryt'synn and his capable pair of hands that he could entrust to care for the kids while Saw ran other errands. He never quite ventured far, still having the establishment as his top priority.

One day, he overheard rumours at his local tavern: a tiefling whose description matched exactly that of Desdemon, Sawtooth's long lost brother in spirit. After some digging for information, he set his mind to itโ there was a new priority. Leaving Redgear Foster in Bryt's care, Sawtooth promised he would be back by a few tendays at most.
He hadn't even been a good day into his search when Sawtooth was abducted by a beam of light into a nautilus, and got caught up in an entire saga of adventure that thwarted an Elder Brain's attempt to take over Baldur's Gate and then the entirety of Faerรปn.
By the end of it, he had already reunited with his brother, apologised to the very justified anger of Bryt and made a merry band of friends, the closest being a tiefling named Karlach, and the Blade of Frontiers himself, Wyll Ravengard.

He had been adventuring with the other two since then. They travelled the planes to help Karlach find a cure for her infernal engine and found themselves frequenting the centre of the outer planes: Sigil.
His last memory before he woke up in Luma was in The Smoldering Corpse tavern in the Hive Ward of Sigil, and then the wall he was leaning on suddenly giving way and making him fall through it.
