The Chronicles of Tonala

In a realm where the sun completes its life cycle every 240 years, it shatters into radiant sun seeds that cascade to the earth to replenish their energy. During this dormant phase, the light slumbers for four years before the seeds finally blossom, ascending once more as a newborn sun.

The Tonala Peak is an ancient domain, inhabited for thousands, perhaps millions, of years by primordial races native to the Material Plane, such as goliaths and giants. These towering figures predominantly thrived in the rugged northern mountain ranges and along the sweeping southern coastlines.

This land harbors a mysterious convergence, drawn perilously close to the energies of both the Underworld and the celestial realms above. Over time, denizens of the Underworld slowly clawed their way to the surface, emerging from the desolate deserts at the easternmost edge of Tonala.

Millennia ago, beings of celestial origin, elves, eladrin, and other heavenly kin, also descended onto this world. They arrived at the westernmost edge of the land, alighting upon a colossal tree known as Zenith. This magnificent tree became their ancestral sanctuary before they eventually scattered across the vast expanses of Tonala.

Initially, all these races coexisted with the native inhabitants. They lived in distinct tribes, though inevitable skirmishes would occasionally erupt over territorial borders and hunting grounds.

Centuries later, humanity first set foot upon this soil, founding an ancient kingdom whose true name has been lost to the annals of history.

Before long, a catastrophe born of sheer greed befell the land. A mortal attempted to consume a sun seed, but their physical form could not withstand its overwhelming, searing energy. In this vulnerable and fractured state, dark miasma from the Underworld seeped in and possessed them. The violent fusion of celestial fire and abyssal darkness twisted the mortal into a gigantic arch-fiend known only as Toci-Tzimitzl.

Toci-Tzimitzl wrought catastrophic devastation across the heart of the continent. The central lands were corrupted, transformed into an eternal swamp teeming with abyssal horrors and fiendish monstrosities.

In the wake of this disaster, military vanguards were forged, tasked with repelling the abyssal creatures plunging Tonala into chaos. These brave warriors were bestowed with a powerful magical artifact known as The First Amber.

Ultimately, the arch-fiend was successfully sealed away within a massive tomb in the center of the continent. The tomb was warded by a complex, three-layered mechanical barrier. Each barrier is bound to specific keys scattered across the world: three altars, three lakes, and three ruins. This intricate sealing mechanism was a monumental collaboration, forged through the united magic and might of the Zenith kin, the ancient human kingdom, the towering goliaths and giants, and the tieflings.

The momentous event of this sealing became the foundation of a new era, marked forever as Year One in the calendar of the Land of Tonala.

The Chronicle of Intisuyu Kingdom

Six hundred and thirty years following the monumental sealing of Toci, wanderers from across the world began to arrive in the lands of Tonala. Among this vast multitude stood a singular, noble vanguard hailing from the Land of the Great Queen—the valiant forebears of the magnificent Intisuyu Kingdom. They arrived bearing tidings of hope and enlightenment: the profound revelation that the divine sun seeds could be harnessed for the greater good of all.

Three years later, as a celestial comet graced the skies of Tonala, vile energies bled from Toci’s ancient tomb. This dark power coalesced into a terrifying void entity, whispered to be the hollow manifestation of the ancient, avaricious sun-seed devourer. Zenith, still recovering its strength, was overwhelmed by the entity's unfettered rampage, and the blessed champions of The First Amber found their forces stretched far too thin to intervene.

In this dire hour of need, the enlightened travelers from the Land of the Great Queen stepped forward to offer deliverance. They revealed a brilliant arcane methodology gleaned from their study of the sun seeds: overwhelming, catastrophic energy could be fractured and effectively tamed. Through a glorious and heroic collaboration between the defenders of Zenith and these selfless wanderers, the apocalyptic entity was successfully shattered into nine manageable fragments, initially safeguarded under Zenith's watchful eye.

Their immediate duty fulfilled, the travelers journeyed homeward to petition the Great Queen, beseeching her to send reinforcements to aid in the glorious rebuilding of Tonala.

For four long decades, the realm awaited their promised return. Finally, in the year 670, a magnificent armada representing the Land of the Great Queen arrived upon Tonala's southwestern shores, marching under the righteous banner of the Intisuyu Forces. After establishing a vital, fortified port city to secure their supplies, they marched undeterred toward the northern mountains. Their mission was clear, selfless, and absolute: to gather and safeguard the sacred sun seeds in every cycle, fiercely protecting the realm's divine light from the clutches of the greedy and the corrupt.
