Matsu Miyuki is a girl in her mid-twenties, a little taller than average in the family but not enough for it to be remarkable, with long, dark hair which is almost always braided back and ornamented with pins except a loose tress from each temple which frame her pretty face. She is relatively slight of build and moves with a good deal of grace, but she is all muscle and carries herself accordingly for a student of the famed Matsu Berserker dojos.
When not at court, she always wears umanori (riding trousers) which is the most notable feature of her wardrobe, and a love of horses and horsemanship is a large facet of her personality. She also has an array of hairpins, but the one she wears most often is a barrette featuring the Matsu family mon.
Her parents, Matsu Hanae and Matsu Choji are alive and well at Shiro Matsu. Matsu Hanae is a powerful woman strongly of the Matsu mould - a Berserker of renown, like the two generations that preceded her, and she favours the nodachi. Hanae wanted Miyuki to continue the family tradition of becoming a famous Berserker and did not take well to her more academic interests, whether that was studying the finer points of Shogi theory, the customs of the other Clans, or her interest in psychology, and especially poorly to her affinity with horses. As far as Hanae is concerned, one should be able to sit on the damned beasts well enough to make it to the next stoppoing point on a journey and that's it. Matsu Choji married in from the Akodo family and has a more compatible personality with his daughter as a well-rounded and respected graduate of the Akodo War College. He was mostly just happy that Miyuki was performing well and becoming an upstanding young samurai, though he does not truly understand her passion for horses. The one member of her family whom she felt truly understood her was her late uncle, Akodo Shigeru. A graduate of the Ikoma Bard College and courtier in Shiro Matsu, Shigeru was the one who encouraged all of her interests, and his home was a safe haven for her when it felt like her own was too much. That ended when he died of a spider bite when Miyuki was sixteen, and she still cannot bear to look at the creatures.
A little after her gempukku, Miyuki entered an open competition sponsored by the Beast's Heart Dojo for young animal trainers. She competed in several categories for horse training and achieved near-perfect scores in all of them, and was told that she could become a great Beast Mistress herself one day.
