Matsu-san stands out as a rather odd choice for a samurai of the Lion, as she personally is hardly the stereotype of the arrogant, honor-obsessed, prim and proper Lion Bushi that is ingrained in the minds of many Rokugani Samurai.
In fact, she's known for many things to the contrary: Perhaps most obvious to an onlooker is her rather ill-kempt appearance, wearing her hair long and wild (And only tying it up to avoid accidentally cutting it off in training exercises), her armor dented and battle-worn, and her kimono ragged with cut sleeves. Easily a defining feature of her armor is how she dresses in the hide of her clan's namesake animal, adorning her Kabuto, shoulders and back with the full pelt of a Lion that she personally killed in a gladiatorial combat- She has always thought it gives her a far more fearsome appearance, which is helpful when you're only 5 Shaku and 4 Sun tall (~5'5").
Matsu Miki is also known as a much more grounded and down to earth sort of Samurai, easily and casually mingling with commoners and her elders alike, having from a young age possessed a mind which craved learning new and interesting things, and seeing nothing as truly being "beneath her station".
Finally, while certainly not one to suffer a fool, never mind gladly, she is a firm believer in lifting up her comrades and helping them overcome shortcomings, encouraging them to press on and continue to improve, even as others berate them for their shortcomings and pass them over as not being worthy of the Lion clan's further attention. Some of the Matsu she's on closer terms with will even jokingly refer to her as "Okāsan" (sometimes not as a compliment) for this tendency.
