A prominent merchant has been found murdered within the City of the Rich Frog, his residence ransacked and a considerable quantity of valuable goods missing. The crime occurred sometime in the dead of night and was not discovered until the following morning, when reports reached the machi-kanshisha and, soon after, the Kaeru magistrates. Witnesses have provided the authorities with their first promising lead: a band of ronin was seen departing the Unicorn district during the night, burdened with goods and making considerable haste westward into Unicorn lands. The magistrates require swiftly available samurai willing to investigate the murder, determine what was taken, and pursue the suspected killers before their trail disappears into the countryside.
