The Asteam lineage is built on the myth of blood. For six generations, the house has produced fierce Draconic Sorcerers whose magic ignited at birth, burning with the innate fury of their dragon progenitor. Loseff’s father, Lord Myseff, wields flame like an extension of his own hand, and Loseff’s older brother, Haiseff, manifested golden scales across his forearms before he could even walk.
Then came Loseff. He was born silent, cold, and utterly devoid of the spark.
To Myseff, a son without inherited magic was an embarrassment—a flaw in the family crest. While Haiseff was kept at home to be groomed as the rightful heir, Myseff shipped Loseff off to a prestigious arcane academy under the guise of an "unfortunate necessity." It was a polite, gilded exile. While his classmates struggled through standard coursework, Loseff poured every waking hour into his studies, determined to prove his worth to his father. He topped his class in somatic precision and arcane theory, driven by the desperate hope that academic excellence would finally earn his father’s respect.
The breaking point came on graduation day. Loseff had earned top honors and was selected to perform the commencement demonstration before the visiting nobility, including his father. Standing before the assembly, Loseff executed a flawlessly calculated abjuration ritual, weaving complex layers of force that captivated the faculty. He looked down at Myseff, waiting for the single nod of approval he had spent years sacrificing his youth to earn.
Myseff didn't even stand to applaud. He simply leaned toward a neighboring lord and remarked loudly enough for the stage to hear, "A dog can learn to perform a trick if you send it to school, but it will never be a dragon."
The words cut deeper than any spell. Loseff realized then that no amount of academic triumph would ever bridge the gap between studied art and bloodline entitlement. He packed his spellbook, declined every prestigious court position offered by the academy, and walked away from the Asteam name. Now adventuring these land in the far colony of Dawnport, Loseff uses his meticulously refined wizardry to carve out his own legacy—determined to prove that intellect and discipline will always outshine unearned power.
