**Aventura Note: First Arrival in the City – The Cake Quest**
**Adventure Title:** The Confectioner’s Request
**Level Range:** Suitable for low-level characters (1–3)
**Tone:** Light-hearted urban intrigue with a minor alchemical twist
**Setting:** A mid-sized trade city the party has never visited before
### Arrival
The party enters the city for the first time. Describe the bustling gates, market smells, and the novelty of the location. Allow brief opportunities for the characters to orient themselves, purchase basic supplies, or ask locals for recommendations.
### Hook – The Cake Commission
A local baker or confectioner approaches the party (or is overheard advertising a need). The baker requires a rare natural food coloring for a special celebratory cake ordered by a minor noble or wealthy merchant. The coloring can only be obtained from a particular species of insect found in the nearby marsh or abandoned orchard just outside the city walls.
The baker offers modest coin plus free lodging or a feast upon successful delivery.
### The Quest
- Travel a short distance outside the city to the insects’ habitat.
- Collect a sufficient quantity of the live (or carefully preserved) bugs.
- Return them to the baker without damaging the specimens.
**Important Detail:** The insects contain a mild toxin when consumed raw. The baker intends to process them properly into a stable, non-toxic food dye. Characters who eat the bugs uncooked risk temporary nausea, mild poison damage, or disadvantage on Constitution checks for several hours. A successful Nature, Survival, or Alchemy check (or prior knowledge) reveals that the toxin is neutralized by boiling or specific preparation.
### Resolution and Celebration
Upon successful delivery, the baker completes the cake. The party is invited to the celebration (a modest feast, private gathering, or public market event). The finished cake is brightly colored and safe to eat.
Reward the party with:
- Agreed payment
- Free lodging for the night
- Favorable reputation with the baker and possibly the cake’s recipient
- Optional minor magical or alchemical trinket related to confectionery or dyes
### Conclusion
The adventure ends after the celebration. The party may depart the city or remain to pursue further opportunities arising from their new local contacts.
This short urban side-quest provides a gentle introduction to the city, a clear objective, a mild hazard involving the insects, and a positive social payoff.

Paper Journal #2
The day started simply enough: meet at the tavern, pick up the quest, and help a little girl named Emily prepare a birthday surprise for her mother. It sounded harmless, so naturally I agreed. We split up around the market to gather everything we needed, though somehow every simple errand turned into its own little problem. Still, we managed to collect the ingredients and make our way to the party room. With a little help from a random person Yulrac somehow dragged into helping us, we even managed to put together the cake.
Then things got... interesting.
Emily slit a chicken’s throat and summoned her “mother” from the blood. Turns out her mother was a demon. Honestly, after everything I’ve seen, I probably should have been more surprised. Instead, I mostly just watched and thought, *Of course this is how the birthday party goes.* Once the demon arrived, though, the rest of the evening was surprisingly normal. Everyone ate cake, chatted, and enjoyed themselves while Taldrin... well, Taldrin was being Taldrin.
Personal Sratch:
I went expecting a simple cake-making job and left with a story involving a demon mother, a blood sacrifice, and a birthday party. I’m not entirely sure whether we completed a quest or accidentally attended the strangest family gathering in the city. Either way, the cake was good, so I suppose it wasn’t a complete disaster.
Zheng Yi's Diary Entry:
After running into the group of people at the Northern Mines a few days ago, I decided that it's time I made myself visible at Dawnport. I thought that the best way to meet more people was to take on a simple task and work with people. I was quietly walking up to the Quest Board in the town when I saw a bunch of people taking up a simple quest looking for cake ingredients. They seemed like a mixed bunch, but I didn't sense any trouble from them, so I decided to join this little ingredient hunt.
I curtly introduced myself and asked if I could join, they mostly didn't notice, except for Abdul Al Hakimi, who was kind enough to agree to it. Emily shows up not long after, though some of them made her cry with some complex adult concepts such as parents hating their children. It reminded me of my adopted son, Zhang Bao, whom I've left to take care of my armada. Growing up at sea, we didn't have much time for loving relationships. We were direct, and everyone respected my late husband and my leadership. There were moments when Zhang Bao made things difficult for my late husband and me, and there was some feeling of hatred. Regardless, we still loved him throughout it all. Complex indeed.
Anyways, we soon split up in search of the ingredients around the market. At first, Emily was following me, but once I found the candies, I realised she had gone missing. I ran into Yulrac, and we both tried searching for her for a moment. As she is indeed a tiny little girl, it was difficult to find her, but the town is safe enough that we didn't have to worry too much. Yulrac and I then decided to look for the chickens. After getting some direction, we were pointed to the chicken seller. Luckily enough, he was selling them for very cheap, only 15 silvers. Yulrac was kind enough to purchase the chickens, and then we decided to meet everyone back at the Quest Board.
Once everyone was back, we heard that the party would be held at the tavern's party room. Upon entering, I noticed a weird star in a circle drawn on the floor in the middle of the room. Yulrac then kidnapped a stranger and intimidated him into baking the cake for us. Once that was done, Little Emily took the chickens from me, stood in the middle of the circle and star, sliced the chickens by the neck and summoned some...thing...
I was disturbed and moved towards the edge of the room, closest to the exit in case I needed to dash out. But what appeared, or rather, who appeared, turned out to be Emily's mother, Scarlet. Emily gleefully introduced her mother to all of us. She is very beautiful; I cannot lie. As soon as the initial shock had left everyone's system, we had the birthday party for Scarlet and enjoyed the day.
It's nice getting to know everyone; I definitely feel like Dawnport is a good place for me to stay for a while. I noticed another quest on the quest board earlier about some frogs; I'll try joining that tomorrow and see how things go. I hope to meet new faces, but I would like to meet some of those kind people from the Northern Mines too.
