Guest of Honour: Father Hoilsat
An island was discovered beyond Dawnport’s harbour by Carlsberg, Mika, Armada and Takashi on their way to rescue the sunken members of the newly arriving Adventurer's Guild team.
It rests beneath a bank of motionless fog and appears on no navigator’s chart. Boats sent toward it return facing the wrong direction, sometimes several hours before they originally departed. This morning, a narrow ferry arrived at the docks. It has no sails, no oars, and no visible crew. At its helm sits a brightly dressed clown with a cracked porcelain smile painted across his face.
“Tickets, please! Courageous, curious, catastrophically unqualified- ALL are welcome!”
The clown calls himself the Guide. He carries several admission tickets between his fingers. Most are blank, but one already bears the name:
“Ah, our guest of honour! Don’t worry, Father- we aren’t going to change your past.”
The Guide pauses.
“Unless you do.”
He claims that the island is called the Isle of Trial, and that something behind its first gate has been waiting for the adventurers. It concerns a place forgotten by history, a faith brought to its knees, a place the Paladin had known a lifetime ago.
He refuses to explain further.
“If I told you everything, it wouldn’t be a trial. It would be an itinerary... and I have been permanently banned from writing those.”
Those who accept a blank ticket will find their name slowly appearing upon it. Once every place is claimed, the ferry will depart for the Isle.
Warning: Decisions made within the trial may permanently alter the present.
