Cillian MacTíre was raised in Veroska by his mother and uncle. His father, a respected hunter, was killed when Cillian was three. The only surviving witness returned raving, claiming their attacker was:

“a monstrous moose… antlers like twisted roots… and a blue eye burning in its forehead.”

His mother, Aileen, coped with her grief through cooking. She taught Cillian how to prepare food with patience and creativity. His uncle Darrow, a city guard, taught him how to survive — sword, bow, discipline, and how to track dangerous prey.

Aileen gave him a love of cooking.

Darrow gave him the skills to kill.

At seventeen, Cillian was accepted into the prestigious Veroska Monster Hunter Academy. On his first field mission, the instructor took the trainee squad into uncharted swamp territory without permission. They unknowingly entered the lair of a Banderhobb Broodmother — a huge, shadow-stitched monstrosity.

The creature swallowed the squad one by one.

Cillian survived only by wedging his sword in the creature’s throat as it tried to swallow him, causing it to choke and die. Stranded and wounded, he spent nearly a week alone in the wilderness. Starving, he finally cut a strip of flesh from the monster’s corpse and cooked it over a weak fire.

The meat healed him.

And changed him.

Returning to the academy gaunt but alive, Cillian discovered that eating monster parts granted temporary abilities. He began experimenting, documenting every effect in a leather-bound book titled:

“The Gastronomicon — A Field Guide to Edible Monsters.”

After earning his certification, he left Teikoku and traveled to the Springreach Adventurer Guild, seeking stronger monsters, rarer ingredients, and new “recipes.”

He doesn’t hunt for gold or glory.

He hunts to learn.

He hunts to cook.

He hunts to become stronger than the things that terrify the world.
