Rowan Vex grew up along the roads and woodland borders beyond Tower Haven, where travelling safely meant noticing what others missed: a snapped branch, a second set of footprints, a silence where birds should be. He began as a guide and tracker, then took work finding people who did not wish to be found. The work taught him patience, concealment and the value of a single well-placed arrow.
Rowan is a Gloom Stalker by experience as much as training. He knows how to move through ruins and deep forest without announcing himself. As his skills develop, he may turn that same patience towards the precise, dangerous work of an Assassin.
Appearance
Rowan is a lean, weathered human in his mid-thirties, with tousled dark brown hair, grey-green eyes and light stubble. A small scar cuts through his left eyebrow. He dresses in worn leather and muted greens and greys, with a cloak that helps him disappear against stone or woodland. His longbow is carefully maintained; the rest of his equipment is practical, repaired and quiet.
Personality
Rowan speaks sparingly, listens closely and tends to choose a position with a clear view of the exits. He has a dry sense of humour that emerges once he trusts someone. He is patient in danger, but restless when forced to wait without knowing why. He will take a hard assignment, though he wants to know who gave the order and what will happen after the target falls.
How he knows Lyra
Lyra first hired Rowan to guide her to a ruined ath changed her. He has not pressed her to talk about it, but he watches where her search for answers leads.rchive outside Tower Haven. She wanted the records inside; Rowan knew the paths, the hazards and the signs that someone else had reached the site first. They recovered what they could and made it back with more questions than answers.
Since then, Lyra has called on Rowan when her research takes her beyond the safety of the Radiant Library. He respects her curiosity and trusts her to tell him what she knows, even when she cannot explain everything she hopes to find.
